The 2023 Academy Awards ceremony certainly wasn't as spicy as last year's, considering no one was slapped on stage. As you may remember, the infamous incident that took place at last year's Oscars where actor Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock over a joke he didn't like about his wife.
Well, nothing like that happened, but there were some interesting moments and takeaways from the star-studded event.
Let's start with the lack of awards received by 'Top Gun: Maverick.' The movie won only one award, and it was for 'Best Sound,' despite being nominated for six academy awards and being the highest grossing movie in 2022.
And 'Top Gun' fans weren't happy about it:
Top Gun Maverick was shafted at the Academy Awards.

It was clearly the best movie of the year and deserved to win more than 1/6 of the Oscars they were nominated for.
I guess being the highest grossing movie of 2022 isn't enough if there isn't woke propaganda shoved down our… https://t.co/49F5BzR4UR
Top Gun Maverick getting snubbed at the Oscars is such a huge disappointment #Oscars2023

how top gun: maverick didn’t get an oscar nomination for cinematography is beyond me. every single shot is so beautifully crafted. it makes me feel as if this film is tying me to the seat of its very soul.

If I had to guess why this record breaking hit didn't get more awards, I'd say Hollywood insiders probably thought it was too patriotic, not diverse enough, and that it had way too much toxic masculinity.
Either way, Tom Cruise is laughing all the way to the bank on this one.
Now a Hollywood awards show would't be complete without a little bit of politics, right?
In a shocking turn of events, comedian and host of the show Jimmy Kimmel cracked a joke at Joe and Hunter Biden's expense instead of using one of his favorite punching bags, like former President Donald J. Trump.
Jimmy Kimmel: Right here, this is my favorite duo of the year. Steven Spielberg and Seth Rogen. What a pair. The Joe and Hunter Biden of Hollywood.
Seth, what are you on right now? Be honest. Nothing? Mushrooms, right? Did you give one to Steven? Give him one. Let's see what happens. Maybe he'll make something crazy. Steven claims he has never smoked weed. You mean to tell me you were sober when you made a movie about an alien who eats Reese's Pieces all day and can't remember how to phone home. You were high as a bike when you made that movie.
While Kimmel didn't attack Trump during the show, he did make reference to the 41,000 hours of Jan. 6 security footage reviewed by Fox News Host Tucker Carlson which appear to show a different narrative than the one that had been told by the January 6 Committee.

And he clearly couldn't resist going after Republican Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.), who has allegedly been caught in a web of lies about his past after he was elected in New York.
“Did you know … the last directing team to win an Oscar was Congressman George Santos?”

Later on in the show, Daniel Scheinert, who won Best Director for 'Everything Everywhere All At Once,' went on a bizarre rant about how thankful he was that his parents let him dress in drag as a kid.
Daniel Scheinert: Oh, my god. Thank you, sir. Our fellow nominees, you guys are our heroes. This is weird. I -- we want to dedicate this to the mommies, all the mommies of the world, to our moms. Specifically my mom and dad, Ken and Becky, thank you for not squashing my creativity when I was making disturbing horror films or perverted comedy films or dressing in drag as a kid, which is a threat to nobody. And -- yeah, thank you to everybody who worked on our movie.
I think it safe to say that many parents would disagree with this sentiment. There are many out there who would likely take issue with the drag queen agenda being pushed on kids, especially when children are being exposed to inappropriate shows in public places and even in some schools.
And lastly, I couldn't help but notice the possible jab by actress Michelle Yeoh directed at CNN host Don Lemon over his recent comments about how women past their 40s are no longer in their prime.
Michelle Yeoh: This is proof that dreams dream big and dreams do come true. And ladies, don't let anybody tell you you are ever past your prime.
That's right! Don't let anybody tell you that you're past your prime, not even Don Lemon!
