Nets Ignore Southern Poverty Law Center Staffer Involved in GA Terrorist Attack

March 6th, 2023 8:57 PM

Sunday saw yet another domestic terrorist attack by rabid leftists hell-bent on destroying the American way of life and causing as much chaos as possible. This time in Atlanta, Georgia where a group of radical leftists violently attacked police at the construction site of law enforcement training facility throwing Molotov cocktails, large rocks, and other items in the latest attempt by the so-called "Stop Cop City" movement. One of the participants named Tom Jurgens was a staff attorney for the leftwing Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). While the terrorist attack was hard for the three broadcast networks to ignore, they did their best to downplay the violence and completely ignored the fact that one of the people arrested was from the SPLC.

Much like their morning show, CBS Evening News only gave it a paltry 24 seconds during a news brief before anchor Norah O'Donnell turned to the weather in California. Meanwhile, ABC's World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News each spent full segments on the group of far-left criminals attacking police, neither network labeled them as far-left, leftists, or any ideological label that they would stick on conservatives if they acted in this manner.

Even worse, neither ABC, CBS, nor NBC bothered to mention that Tom Jurgens of the Southern Poverty Law Center was one of the thugs arrested in the riots and charged with domestic terrorism.

In a statement, SPLC claimed that Jurgens was just there as a “legal observer” and falsely asserted the incident was “part of a months-long escalation of policing tactics against protesters and observers who oppose the destruction of the Weelaunee Forest to build a police training facility.”

On ABC, correspondent Elwyn Lopez tried to excuse the mob by brushing them off as "agitators" who were "most[ly] from out of state" who had "splinter[ed] off from a peaceful protest." Even worse, she gave voice to anti-police activists who essentially blamed the police training site dubbed "cop city" for the violent attacks.

"Some protesters accusing police in this latest incident of violating civil rights. Saying in part that this, quote, reaffirms that this cop training facility should never be built," Lopez shamefully repeated.

Meanwhile, over on NBC Nightly News, correspondent Blayne Alexander described the attack from far-left thugs as simply a "chaotic clash."

Before turning the show back over to anchor Lester Holt, Alexander did one last bit of stenography for the leftist mob by telling their side of the story that the "protesters say it all started at a family-friendly music festival and that officials used excessive force to arrest some who were not involved."

Notice how she refers to the violent domestic terrorists as "protesters," she would never give that generous label to conservatives who acted like this. Not only did the three networks attempt to downplay violence by leftist mobs, but they completely ignored that a staff attorney from a far-left organization was arrested.

This disgraceful coverage of the leftist mobs attacking police officers was made possible by Progressive on ABC, CarFax on CBS, and Prevagen on NBC. Their information is linked.

ABC’s World News Tonight
3/6/2023
6:38:46 p.m. Eastern

DAVID MUIR: Now, to Atlanta. The violent scene at the sight of a police training center. More than 100 people clashing with police. Nearly two dozen people tonight charged with domestic terrorism. Surveillance video showing protesters tossing firecrackers and Molotov cocktails, setting equipment on fire. Tonight, at least 23 people have been arrested. Only two were actually from Georgia. ABC's Elwyn Lopez in Atlanta for us.

ELWYN LOPEZ: Tonight, nearly two dozen people facing domestic terrorism charges after a violent clash with Atlanta police.

ATLANTA POLICE CHIEF DARIN SCHIERBAUM: This was a very violent attack.

LOPEZ: Officials say agitators, most from out of state, breached the construction site of a police training facility critics dubbed cop city after splintering off from a peaceful protest. The crowd, some dressed in black, seen here launching what authorities have called a coordinated attack, hurling rocks, fireworks, and Molotov cocktails, setting equipment ablaze.

SCHIERBAUM: When you throw Molotov cocktails, large rocks, a number of items at officers, your only intend is to harm.

LOPEZ: S.W.A.T. teams and police swarming the area, one officer seen taking a protester down with a stun gun.

SCHIERBAUM: This was about anarchy, and this was about the attempt to destabilize.

LOPEZ: Environmentalists occupying the site, all in an effort, they say, to save the wooded area, also arguing that training facility would militarize police. In January, rioters smashed windows, setting a cruiser on fire. This just days after officials say activist Manuel Teran shot a trooper and was then killed by law enforcement. And tonight, some protesters accusing police in this latest incident of violating civil rights. Saying in part that this, quote, reaffirms that this cop training facility should never be built.

CBS Evening News

NORAH O’DONNELL: Tonight 23 people are charged with domestic terrorism after a violent protest at the site of a planned police and fire training facility near Atlanta, activists dressed all in black attacked the construction site and officers late Sunday with fireworks, Molotov cocktails, rocks, and bricks. The police chief says many of those arrested were from outside Atlanta and their goal was anarchy.

NBC Nightly News

6:40:01 p.m. Eastern

LESTER HOLT: Alarming scenes outside Atlanta where police say they faced a coordinated attack by rioters at the site of a planned police training facility. Tonight more than 20 people are charged with domestic terrorism. Blayne Alexander has late details.

BLAYNE ALEXANDER: In Atlanta a chaotic clash. Atlanta police released this video that they say shows rioters throwing fireworks at officers and setting construction vehicles and a trailer on fire. In the end, 23 charged with domestic terrorism.

ATLANTA POLICE CHIEF DARIN SCHIERBAUM: When you throw Molotov cocktails, large rocks, a number of items at officers. Your only intent is to harm.

ALEXANDER: Police call it a coordinated attack by violent agitators. Of the 23 arrested only two are from Georgia. While protesters say it all started at a family-friendly music festival and that officials used excessive force to arrest some who were not involved. All of it centered around a planned public safety training center that opponents have dubbed cop city. The planned site is right here. 85 acres just outside of Atlanta. A training facility for both Atlanta police and fire. Now, officers have been stationed nearby but they say they're going to increase their presence in the coming days. Officials tout it as a way to improve community policing.

ATLANTA MAYOR ANDRE DICKENS: This is where your community and neighborhood watch programs will learn how to keep your neighborhood safe.

ALEXANDER: But critics say it will do just the opposite.

KAMAU FRANKLIN: 90 acres of the forest is going to be destroyed right away to build cop city. So we see this as a further militarization of the police.

ALEXANDER: This is the latest flashpoint in a fight that has stretched well over a year. In January a protester was killed. A Georgia state patrol trooper injured. Tonight protesters say that this is just the start of a week of demonstrations. Blayne Alexander, NBC News, Atlanta.
