On Wednesday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy officially removed Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) from the House Intelligence Committee, prompting reporters from pro-Democrat CNN and MSNBC to scratch their heads and question what on Earth could have motivated McCarthy to do such a thing. Yet their theatrical protestations cannot change the fact that Schiff is a well-documented purveyor of disinformation, particularly with regard to the Donald Trump/Russia conspiracy theory.
It’s remarkable to see a group of people who call themselves “journalists” so aggressively defending a Congressman who strung them along for more than three years with false promises and empty assertions.
During the Trump years, Schiff was a favorite guest on both CNN and MSNBC due to his penchant for promising that he had found “damning” evidence that the Trump campaign had colluded with Russians during the 2016 election. For a look back at Schiff’s many lies from that period, watch the video below:
Yet the corporate media appear to have suffered collective amnesia about Schiff’s track record. On Wednesday, MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell absurdly claimed McCarthy was “falsely accusing Schiff of lies about Donald Trump.”
That evening on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, former Republican Joe Walsh put on an indignant display over McCarthy’s decision to remove Schiff and his colleague Adam Swalwell (D-CA) from the Intelligence Committee: “I think Kevin McCarthy knows that what he’s doing to Adam Schiff and Swalwell is wrong.”
MSNBC’s Joy Reid conducted a three-way interview with both Schiff and Swalwell, which she began with this propagandistic non-question:
In a way, I feel like you, in Kevin McCarthy’s mind, committed the greater crime, which was presiding over the the impeachment of Donald Trump. And I can’t find any legitimate reason why you would not — would not be on this committee other than that. Can you?
The Washington Post editorial board joined in the Schiff revisionism on Thursday, in a piece which claimed the actual reason McCarthy was removing Schiff was because he was just too darn good at his job: “We suspect the real reason Republicans are going after Mr. Schiff is that he has been so effective.”
Perhaps the above video will help jog the memory of everyone in the corporate media who simultaneously decided to forget Schiff’s long-running habit of lying to their faces.
