The ladies of ABC’s The View are divorced from reality; a benefit of their uber-wealthy lifestyles that allow them to not face the hardships average Americans are experiencing in the Biden economy. It also constitutes the rickety soapbox co-host Joy Behar stands upon when she repeatedly bemoans how those struggling Americas rank inflation as their top concern in the midterms and for their support of Republicans. Luckily, Behar was confronted on Tuesday by an unlikely co-host and schooled on economics.
On Friday, Behar attacked struggling Americans for caring about inflation instead of helping Democrats in November. “And they don’t realize – a lot of people don't realize inflation comes and goes,” she scoffed. “[The economy] fluctuates. But democracy does not fluctuate.”
She was at it again on Tuesday, whining that “only seven percent of voters rank a threat to democracy as a major issue this election cycle.” She condescendingly suggested, “I understand, inflation has gotten people – If you can't put food on the table it's very depressing and if you put gas in your car and inflation and rents, everything is piling up because of various reasons” but they need to vote for Democrats.
Behar said it was “ludicrous” for them to think the Republican Party – or “the other party” as she put it – “is going to be able to solve those problems.” Without evidence, she claimed the GOP was going to reduce corporate taxes to zero and “cut lunches for children.”
“They’re not going to help you! So, why would you vote for them?!” she sneered at those below her, questioning their intelligence. “And yet I see it's very close, that people are not understanding what the stakes are. And I find it sad and depressing.”
A few minutes later, Republican co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin wanted to “respectfully” call out the “blind spot … at this table” when it comes to the struggles of average Americans. She informed the elitist bunch that “the average American family lost $6,000 in annual wage last year due to inflation.”
“Blame Biden or don’t, but there is a reason that Tim Ryan is running in Ohio away from Biden and away from Nancy Pelosi,” she dropped the truth bomb, noting that Ohio had voted for Presidents Obama and Trump twice each. As she was saying this the camera cut to co-host Sara Haines who did not seem amused.
The facts triggered Behar and racist co-host Sunny Hostin and they started shouting at Farah Griffin:
BEHAR: And – and what – and then – So, what will the Republican Party do?
HOSTIN: What is the Republican agenda? And do you think those same people understand that the Republicans – the little bit of money they did get every, every single Republican voted against it?
Farah Griffin countered Hostin specifically, pointing to the fact that “Democrats aren’t running on the payments that they did during COVID because it added to inflation!” And giving them a crash course on simple economics, she added: “I wish I could every American $2,000, $2,000, but it adds to inflation and this crisis now.”
“But it was an emergency! It was an emergency time for us in this country! And those people needed it,” Behar shrieked.
But as Farah Griffin was explaining to them that “when people artificially couldn't go to work because the economy was shut down” and “you can't do it forever because it actually exacerbates the problem,” Whoopi Goldberg ended the conversation to go to a commercial and promising to pick it up on the other side. Spoiler alert: they didn’t.
Joy Behar’s contempt for struggling Americans was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Humana and Carvana. Their contact information is linked.

JOY BEHAR: Well, what's depressing is that The New York Times released a poll today that says that 71 percent of voters agree that democracy is under threat. But only seven percent of voters rank a threat to democracy as a major issue this election cycle.
I find that so depressing, I can't begin to tell you.
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: That's why I don't like polls.
BEHAR: Well –
SUNNY HOSTIN: It's depressing.
BEHAR: -- you can debate the poll but this is what people are saying. I mean I understand, inflation has gotten people – If you can't put food on the table it's very depressing and if you put gas in your car and inflation and rents, everything is piling up because various reasons. You know, one of them is the pandemic. Another one is maybe the war in Iraq – in Ukraine.
But – But to think the other party is going to be able to solve those problems is really ludicrous, because the Republican Party is happy to let corporations never pay another tax for the rest of their days. They will cut Social Security. They’re going to cut lunches for children. They’re not going to help you! So, why would you vote for them?
And yet I see it's very close, that people are not understanding what the stakes are. And I find it sad and depressing.

ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: But I have to ask something – I want to say this respectfully – I worry there might be a blind spot about at this table is, the fact that the average American family lost $6,000 in annual wage last year due to inflation. Blame Biden or don’t, but there is a reason that Tim Ryan is running in Ohio away from Biden and away from Nancy Pelosi.
And this is a state that both times nominated Barack Obama to be president but then flipped to Donald Trump. Workers feel like they're not getting the most out of the economy, they’re falling behind.
BEHAR: And – and what – and then – So, what will the Republican Party do?
HOSTIN: What is the Republican agenda? And do you think those same people understand that the Republicans – the little bit of money they did get every, every single Republican voted against it?
FARAH GRIFFIN: But there’s a reason Democrats aren’t—
HOSTIN: Every single one.
FARAH GRIFFIN: -- running on the payments that they did during COVID because it added to inflation! I wish I could every American $2,000, $2,000, but it adds to inflation and this crisis now.
[Crosstalk]
HOSTIN: Then what should they [inaudible].
BEHAR: But it was an emergency! It was an emergency time for us in this country!
FARAH GRIFFIN: I agree.
BEHAR: And those people needed it.
FARAH GRIFFIN: [Inaudible] through the height of the pandemic when people artificially couldn't go to work because the economy was shut down. You can't do it forever because it actually exacerbates the problem.
HOSTIN: What about the hearing aids? What about lowering Medicare?
GOLDBERG: Hold up! Here's what we're going to do, we're going to go to break and give Rob a break. And then we're going to come back and finish this conversation.
