The View Smears Pro-Lifers: They Hate Mothers and the Poor!

It’s day two of the leaked Supreme Court draft decision overturning Roe v. Wade news cycle and ABC’s The View still didn’t have a pro-life woman on the show (not a surprise, since their vileness has chased away true conservative women). But co-host Sara Haines proved herself to be a bad-faith actor on Wednesday as she smeared pro-lifers as heartless ghouls who don’t care about mothers and want to eliminate “low-income health care.”

She teased her contempt for pro-lifers on Tuesday when responding to a video tweet I posted asking if her comment about the possible ruling costing “more lives” was a tacit admission that abortions killed babies. “Nope, but for those who claim to be pro life [sic], it may reveal which lives matter more,” she wrote.

Haines seemed to reference that exchange on Wednesday as she lashed out at pro-lifers and lied about liberal policies on abortion:

Whenever we talk about abortion, I think there are so many statistics that are completely off because people that are running around on the right oftentimes are saying that abortion, people want to, you know, kill babies along the way. (…) Because some people pass around that the left wants to protect abortions all the way through, and people are getting rid of babies, and they are not.

This is a lie. We know it is because liberal states have passed laws protecting abortion up until the moment of birth. New York, where The View is broadcasted from, has such a law.

She then rattled off a bunch of statistics to try to justify taking the taking of the life of an unborn child:

93 percent of women having an abortion are doing that in the first 13 weeks.

(…)

A lot of times -- this is also true. In fact, 6 in 10 women that have an abortion already have one or two children, and the number one reason they give for having it is they need to be better parents to the ones they already have.

“It's full-blown family planning, it is not birth control. And I think too many people don’t look deeply into that,” she huffed.

But the statistics she didn’t want their viewers to know about show that a vast majority of people do want some kind of restriction on abortion. In 2019, a Knights of Columbus/Marist poll showed that only 15 percent of respondents were okay with abortions “any time during a pregnancy.” And 27 percent wanted it restricted to the first three months, while 28 percent felt rape/incent/save the mother were the only acceptable circumstances.

Haines followed that up with the ridiculous and false claim that the “mission” of the pro-life movement was to eliminate “low-income health care” by targeting Planned Parenthood because they don’t care about the lives of the mothers:

Because for so long they didn't allow women any birth control. So you wanted them to not get an abortion, but you didn't want to help them with any other option, and you don't want to help them once the baby comes out.

First, Planned Parenthood claims that abortions are only a fraction of the services they carry out. So, banning or restricting abortion won’t dismantle the rest of their purported clinical services. Second, there are many conservative and religious organizations that have the mission of giving care to mothers who chose life for their babies. My family gives to one in New York.

“So, I think we need to remember that there are more lives here at stake with the mothers who are already living, breathing, and trying to do the best thing with their lives that we so often forget when we talk about this topic,” Haines concluded her rant, expanding on her fact-free tweet.

These smears of the pro-life movement were made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Ensure and Olay. Their contact information is linked.

SARA HAINES: Well, I was going to jump in a little bit because, we’re eventually going to find out about who leaked this because I was reached out to Terry Moran today, the senior national correspondent here at ABC. Because I didn't have a complete understanding of how many people are in this area, and he broke it down to about 50 people that would have access to this. And he said, they will figure out who leaked it.

I was more curious with the motivation politically as to the “why” of it all. My theory was that it was because everything we have been warned was happening was going to happen, so I have a feeling it was a left-leaning per—a more liberal judge -- not the justice. Not justice. Not the justice themselves, but someone there saying, “oh my gosh, you guys, the house is on fire” type of thing.

But I wanna-- Whenever we talk about abortion, I think there are so many statistics that are completely off because people that are running around on the right oftentimes are saying that abortion, people want to, you know, kill babies along the way. There are statistics here that make this a little more understanding.

First of all, abortions are down by over half in the last 30 years.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG:  Mm-hmm.

HAINES: 93 percent of women having an abortion are doing that in the first 13 weeks. Because some people pass around that the left wants to protect abortions all the way through, and people are getting rid of babies, and they are not.

A lot of times -- this is also true. In fact, 6 in 10 women that have an abortion already have one or two children, and the number one reason they give for having it is they need to be better parents to the ones they already have. It's full-blown family planning, it is not birth control. And I think too many people don’t look deeply into that.

The other thing is, Planned Parenthood and the kind of mission to get rid of it is primarily getting rid of low-income health care. Because for so long they didn't allow women any birth control. So you wanted them to not get an abortion, but you didn't want to help them with any other option, and you don't want to help them once the baby comes out.

So, I think we need to remember that there are more lives here at stake with the mothers who are already living, breathing, and trying to do the best thing with their lives that we so often forget when we talk about this topic.

JOY BEHAR: That’s right. That’s right.
