He didn't go the "full Toobin," but Congressman Donald Payne (D-NJ) wasn't exactly in business attire during a congressional meeting that was being held over Zoom. On June 17 during a Homeland Security Committee meeting, Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne (R-TX) posted a video to twitter that showed Payne standing up during the call. The representative was obviously not aware that his camera was on, or maybe he just wanted to give his colleagues a show.
The taxpayers are providing Payne with a salary that is roughly $174,000 a year, you would think he would have the decency to dress properly for an official meeting. Instead, the representative had on a Captain America T-Shirt and striped boxers. When he stood up the camera was pointed directly at his large belly, which was hanging out of his shirt. Come on man, at least buy a shirt that fits, we know money isn’t the issue.
Rep. Van Duyne’s caption was probably the funniest thing on twitter all day:
Another reason Democrats should get off Zoom and back to work. #TheStruggleIsReal pic.twitter.com/92cvxqnEV2

While many of the committee members were too busy "working"’ to even notice what was happening, Rep. Kat Cammack’s (R-FL) jaw dropped and she had to cover her mouth to hide the laughter. Absolutely priceless.

Best of all, Rep. Yvette Clark (D-NY) didn’t even stop talking while Payne’s paunch was getting up close and personal with the camera. Shortly after the embarrassing video started blowing up on twitter, Payne released a statement saying this:
As a public servant, my focus has always been the public good and my work to better the lives of my constituents and all Americans, regardless of the circumstances.
I bet all of his constituents are rethinking just how much trust they have in a man who holds real government power and can’t even dress himself. Yep, you can count on him to always look out for the “public good,” provided he doesn't have to get up and leave the house of Payne. But if he did, his shirts might fit better.
