On Monday, a group of partisan Democrats posing as objective academic “scholars” authored a letter slamming Republican election integrity bills across the country, wildly proclaiming “our entire democracy is now at risk.” It was promptly published in The Washington Post opinion section and seized upon by multiple other left-wing media outlets, all designed to scare viewers into supporting the Democratic Party’s scheme to rig elections in its in favor with federal legislation.
On her Monday night show, radical MSNBC host Joy Reid breathlessly announced that “more than 100 scholars who study democracy for a living have issued a frantic warning.” She continued to hype the fearmongering screed: “They write that anti-voting initiatives are transforming several states into political systems that no longer meet the minimum conditions for free and fair elections. Hence, our entire democracy is now at risk.” Reid added: “And time is not on democracy’s side.”
Meanwhile, on CNN that evening, anchor Anderson Cooper similarly fretted over “100 scholars of democracy who today warned that, quote, ‘our entire democracy is now at risk.’” He then eagerly echoed their blatant lobbying for Democratic attempts to federalize elections: “They conclude by urging lawmakers, in this case largely Democrats, to do whatever is necessary, including suspending the filibuster to pass laws guaranteeing the vote to all Americans equally and preventing state legislatures from manipulating the rules in order manufacture results.”
Conveniently, Cooper never explain how any of these state laws would take away anyone’s right to vote nor did he bother to support the unsubstantiated claim that the measures were designed to “manufacture results.”
MSNBC’s Chris Hayes declared that the state election bills “led more than 100 scholars of democracy to sign an open letter of their own, calling on Congress to pass legislation supporting voting rights and warning, quote, ‘our democracy is fundamentally at stake. History will judge what we do at this moment.”
Later that night, his unhinged colleague Lawrence O’Donnell recited a lengthy portion of the leftist propaganda as if it were Gospel:
The statement says, “We have watched with deep concern as Republican-led state legislatures across the country have in recent months proposed or implemented what we consider radical changes to core electoral procedures in response to unproven and intentionally destructive allegations of a stolen election. Collectively, these initiatives are transforming several states into political systems that longer meet the minimum conditions for free and fair elections. These actions call into question whether the United States will remain a democracy. As scholars of democracy, we condemn these actions in the strongest possible terms as a betrayal of our precious democratic heritage.” The statement urges Congress to do what is necessary to preserve democracy, including changing the Senate 60-vote rule to pass federal voting protections. The last line of their statement says, ominously, “Our democracy is fundamentally at stake.”
The liberal media wailing continued into Tuesday, when CNN’s New Day began at 6:00 a.m. with co-host John Berman sounding the alarm: “And this morning our entire democracy is now at risk. History will judge what we do at this moment. Those words from a hundred scholars as they watch what is happening across the country, new voting laws they say that no longer meet the minimum conditions for free and fair elections.”
Later in the show, reliable left-wing bomb-thrower John Avlon offered a ridiculous “reality check” on the matter: “But when one party embraces the politics of un-reality, it affects all of us. And when 100 scholars warn that our democracy is in grave danger, we cannot add to the un-reality by pretending it’s not happening.”
Partisan Democrats and their media allies claiming the implementation of widely popular provisions like requiring identification to vote represents the “end of democracy” is the height of rejecting reality.
The warning from Democrats disguised as “scholars” even made it to network television, with ABC’s Good Morning America touting the letter Tuesday morning. “We have seen over 100 scholars put out this statement warning that these Republican states are being transformed into, quote, ‘political system that no longer meet the minimum conditions for free and fair elections,’ saying, ‘our entire democracy is now at risk,’” correspondent Mary Bruce promoted.
“A hundred-plus scholars talking about the dynamic...all these states passing restrictions....‘The most effective remedy for these anti-democratic laws at the state level is federal action. History will judge what we do at this moment,” CNN anchor John King heralded Tuesday afternoon.
Later, fellow anchor Alisyn Camerota teased yet another upcoming CNN segment on the topic with sensational language: “A group of scholars is sending out a distress warning, saying U.S. democracy is in danger. What has them so worried and what do they suggest we do.”
Not once did any of these so-called “journalists” question the wild rhetoric. They also completely ignored clear political ties between the “scholars” and the Obama administration. The only goal with this coverage was to advocate the Democratic Party agenda to rig all future elections.
