A new wacky report by Greenpeace underscored the Marxist left’s obsession with connecting the completely unrelated issues of eco-fanaticism and racism.
The April 13 report was published with a blaring headline, “Fossil Fuel Racism.” The executive summary was just as absurd as the headline: “Fossil fuels — coal, oil, and gas — lie at the heart of the crises we face, including public health, racial injustice, and climate change.” The report preached that President Joe Biden and Congress have “a historic opportunity to improve public health, tackle the climate crisis, and confront systemic racism at the same time by phasing out fossil fuel production and use.” The leftist Movement for Black Lives (MBL) co-authored the extremist report. MBL “serves as a unifying umbrella organization to coordinate [Black Lives Matter] activism and move towards concrete policy goals.” [Emphasis added.]
The document was laced with leftist boilerplate ideas. For example: “In addition to the accumulated negative impact on human health and the environment, fossil fuels depend on and contribute to the legacy of systemic racism in the United States.” The report continued and even accused the U.S. fossil fuel industry of benefiting from ─ wait for it ─ genocide. “Oil, gas, and coal activity in the United States takes place on the ancestral lands of Indigenous peoples, making the fossil fuel industry complicit beneficiaries of the forced removal and genocide of Indigenous peoples.”
Of course, the report prescribed that rectifying “our legacy of systemic racism” would mean “phasing out fossil fuel production.” [Emphasis added.] The report attempted to explain its nonsense in more mind-numbing depth:
A fossil fuel phaseout — an immediate halt to new extraction and infrastructure build-out and managed wind-down of existing production that prioritizes the needs of affected workers and communities — is necessary to end fossil fuel racism and fully address the public health, racial injustice, and climate crises.
In addition, the report managed to somehow tie its climate change obsession with the constitutionally destructive H.R.1 bill. The report demanded: “Pass the For the People Act (H.R.1 / S.1) and John Lewis Voting Rights Act (H.R. 4) to give more electoral power to the people and protect against racist voter suppression tactics.”
Former President George H.W. Bush’s White House Counsel C. Boyden Gray recently noted that the H.R.1 legislation would “make the mess of the 2020 mail-in election both permanent and nationwide.” In addition, Gray warned that H.R.1 would directly threaten the principles of the Constitution:
If enacted, [H.R.1] would be a Washington, D.C. takeover of elections on a collision course with the Constitution's text, structure and principles—all of which put the states in the driver's seat.
