Twitter reportedly silenced Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) as her political future hangs in the balance. Greene has since said that she was told Twitter censored her account in “error.”
“Twitter has locked Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene out of her Twitter account on the day that Democrats are introducing a resolution to overturn the will of voters and expel her from Congress,” The Gateway Pundit reported March 19. “A spokesperson for Greene confirmed that she is locked out of the account for 12 hours for unspecified ‘repeated violations.’”
“We use a combination of technology and human review to enforce the Twitter Rules across the service,” a spokesperson for the company reportedly told CNBC in a statement. “In this case, our automated systems took enforcement action on the account referenced in error,” the spokesperson added. “This action has been reversed, and access to the account has been reinstated.”
Greene has since responded via Twitter, and she isn't buying Twitter’s act that the censorship of her account was done in error:
“I was just told @Twitter suspended me for 12 hrs in ‘error,’ on the same day Dems introduced a resolution to expel me from Congress.
“What a coincidence?
“Twitter’s little error wasn’t resolved until after 12 hrs.
“@jack which employee made the ‘error?’
“Reply to my email, Jack.”
The Gateway Pundit article included an alleged screenshot of Twitter alerting Greene with an explanation concerning the lockout:
“We have determined that you have violated the Twitter Rules, so we’ve temporarily limited some of your account features. While in this state, you can still browse Twitter, but you’re limited to only sending Direct Messages to your followers - no Tweets, Retweets, or likes. Your account will be restored to full functionality in: 4 hours and 28 minutes.”
The alleged attempt to silence Greene came as “California Rep. Jimmy Gomez is introducing the resolution to oust her on Friday — and his effort is cosponsored by 72 House Democrats,” The Gateway Pundit explained. “Among those pushing the anti-Democratic effort are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.”
Big Tech has a damning history of claiming to have accidentally censored conservatives. Conservatives ranging from President Donald Trump to conservative commentator Candace Owens and entire news outlets like the New York Post have been erroneously censored. Big Tech representatives have a reputation for apologizing long after the fact, when the damage has already been done.
Twitter did not respond to the Media Research Center’s request for comment at the time this piece was published.
