Telemundo's unending crusade to portray New York governor Andrew Cuomo as leader of the nation's best response to COVID-19 was shattered by news that his administration willfully covered up the state’s nursing home COVID-19 death toll. But Telemundo’s viewers have not seen any reporting on these shocking developments.
MRC Latino reviewed Telemundo's news coverage from Friday, February 12th - the day after the scandal broke- through the midday newscast on Tuesday, February 16th, and verified that nothing was reported about the shocking revelations made by one of Cuomo's top aides, Melissa DeRosa, regarding how they purposely covered up the state’s nursing home COVID-19 death toll.
On the other hand, Univision covered the story- albeit reluctantly, very briefly, and only at the network's morning Despierta América and on the midday newscasts. Furthermore, they waited until Monday, February 15th, to provide details of the scandal at the evening newscast, five full days after the story broke.
During this period of time, Telemundo did find time to mention that governor Cuomo was opening restaurants for inside dining, and that New York joined other states in offering early vaccines for persons with pre-existing conditions.
Why is Telemundo so reluctant to cover Cuomo, even after the mainstream media (begrudgingly) exposed him? The truth always comes out; and out it will come.
