Despite China covering up the coronavirus in 2019, the American media is intent on ignoring that and smearing the Trump administration as responsible for letting the virus spread. The co-hosts of ABC's The View kept up that convenient narrative on Wednesday's show by bringing on failed presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) to trash Trump for promoting Hydroxychloroquine and claim he’s responsible for people dying.
Co-host Sunny Hostin was particularly nasty. She began by attacking Trump for taking too long to “admit” there was a problem (she conveniently left out steps the administration took early on such as the China travel ban), then invited Harris to blame the president for people dying: “American lives have been lost. Does he not bear some of the responsibility for that?” she asked.
Of course Harris agreed, before pushing the debunked lie that Trump called the virus a hoax. At the same time she was lying, she lectured that Trump needed to “embrace fact and speak truth”:
The buck stops with him, you know…The President of the United States, the Commander in Chief, must use the voice of that office in a way that is about speaking truth, embracing fact, speaking about facts. No matter how uncomfortable it may make people to hear. It is about embracing science, and listening to the public health professionals all with the intention of lifting up the American people both in terms of dealing with the solutions to this problem which means acknowledging it is a real serious issue and not a hoax...
Hostin again urged Harris to attack Trump for “pushing” the drug Hydroxychloroquine recklessly, even as it’s being used in New York hospitals to treat coronavirus patients. Like Mika Brzezinski, Hostin seemed to allude that Trump had a personal incentive in doing so:
"Senator, President Trump is aggressively advocating hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug, yet Dr. Fauci has repeatedly warned that there's no real conclusive evidence to support using the drug for coronavirus. Why do you think he is pushing that drug so hard? Does he have information that we haven't been provided?" she posed.
The Democrat managed to spin Trump’s hope for a virus remedy as another way he is hurting Americans:
Sunny, your guess is as good as mine. I have no idea, but what I do know is this. It is a drug that has been proven to give relief from pain and almost disability to people with rheumatoid arthritis, people with lupus, and right now I'm hearing from all over the place that people are hoarding this drug in a way that those who need it to relieve their pain and extend the quality of their life may not be able to get it all because the president keeps taking the stage, and as opposed to what Dr. Fauci and medical health professionals are telling us, pushing this drug. He's got to stop -- he's not -- we don't want a drug pusher for president!
Co-host Sara Haines also prodded Harris to blame Trump for being too distracted by impeachment to warn the country about the impending COVID-19 threat. She asked, "Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blamed the impeachment hearings for President Trump's lack of focus in the early onset of the coronavirus outbreak here in America. How do you respond to that?"
(Which begs the question: Was it Trump or the media who was too distracted?)
