While the entertainment world gnashed its collective teeth and tried hard to somehow make the pandemic Trump’s fault, one actress Kirstie Alley braved the ire of her celebrity colleagues by thanking the president for “taking charge and leading” Americans.
Kirstie made the error of thinking Trump was doing a good job and several of her Hollywood colleagues gave her a chilly response. Way to break the mold, Kirstie.
On March 23, The Cheers and Shoot To Kill star responded to Trump’s latest round of coronavirus press conferences with confidence and gratitude. She tweeted, “Dear Mr. President, @realDonaldTrump I wanted to thank you for ur recent decorum, sincerity, & care towards us. You’re taking charge & leading in a manner needed & wanted for this country.” Whoa, we were not expecting that.
Kirstie added, “I highly commend you for ur boundless energy & willingness to solve problems. Thank you.” Compared to the usual hate the president receives from Hollywood, this kind of showbiz response is one in a million.
Of course, it stood out so much that some of the entertainment world’s political gatekeepers had to remind Kirstie that those opinions don’t fly in their town. Ellen producer Andy Lassner made his sarcasm known, responding to Alley’s tweet with a dismissive “Lol. Good one.”
Comedian and wannabe “#resistance” member Dana Goldberg got a quip in tweeting, “Oh My God,” followed by several “facepalm” emojis. She added, “(And I know I’m not suppose[sic] to touch my face. I couldn’t help it.)”
Comedian John Melendez showcased his aversion to diversity of thought, responding to Alley with, “Are you out of your mind? What press conferences are you watching? I watch the ones with lies, misinformation, & jabs at Mitt Romney, & others.”
Alley dismissed Melendez with a simple, “BlAh blAh blAh.” Yeah, though honestly these jokers don’t even deserve that.
A couple hours later, Alley responded to all the negativity with another post. She tweeted, “You can tell a lot about people who belittle you for your views and beliefs, when u aren’t even TALKING TO THEM! My bestie and I call these people CHIMERS ..they ALWAYS chime in when u are speaking to someone else.”
Kirstie Alley isn’t one to hide her controversial opinions. Last year she leveled a heavy rebuke at this same crowd, calling them “hypocrites” over their hatred of Republicans. Alley tweeted, “I refuse to be part of the Hollywood asshats who can’t see that ‘NOT working with Republicans’ is as stupid and NASTY as ‘REFUSING to do business with gay people’..STOP ACTING above the FRAY ya damn hypocrites.”
