On Saturday morning, ABC's Good Morning America and NBC's Today show both celebrated climate alarmists Leonardo DiCaprio and Greta Thunberg as a "dream team" as anchors gushed over reports that the two recently met and pledged to work together to promote their agenda.
On ABC, after co-host Dan Harris alluded to a "celebrity encounter," correspondent Janai Norman made her "dream team" description as she began:
Right, I mean, some might call this, like, a dream team of environmental activists. Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio is calling Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg a "leader of our time." And he says the two of them have made a commitment to support one another. He posted a photo of him with Thunberg -- look at this -- on Friday as the two met during her tour of North America.
She then admitted that DiCaprio has come under scrutiny for helping to produce so much carbon emissions, which contradicts what he advocates for others:
DiCaprio has been outspoken, of course, about climate change, but he's also been criticized for his use of private jets. Thunberg, in the meantime, is asking for help in finding an emissions-free way to get to the U.N.'s climate change meeting in December, and was supposed to take place in Chile, but has now been moved to Spain. The teen saying she traveled half around the world the wrong way. So really cool seeing the two of them teaming up.
Harris then conceded: "Yeah, it's a conundrum, though. If you want to be an activist, as she is, and travel all over the place, how do you get there without emitting carbon?"
Over on NBC, Sheinelle Jones quoted DiCaprio praising Thunberg as the NBC co-host teased the story: "And 'Leader for our time.' Leonardo DiCaprio meets young climate activist Greta Thunberg in a photo that's already been 'liked' nearly four million times. His impassioned plea for the future of the world."
Later in the show, co-host Dylan Dreyer got to the story:
Leonardo DiCaprio, it's safe to assume, people are usually pretty starstruck over the Academy Award winner. Well, the actor and activist had the tables turned on him this week when he met Swedish climate crusader Greta Thunberg. In a passionate Instagram post which has been "liked" nearly four million times, Leo praised the teen activist, calling her "the leader of our time."
She added:
As for their meeting, the actor says: "It was an honor to spend time with Greta. She and I have made a commitment to support one another in hopes of securing a brighter future for our planet." He also said he hopes Greta's message is "a wakeup call to world leaders everywhere." I mean, how cool, like, for him but also for her, I mean, for Leo to just really be behind her so much.
Co-host Peter Alexander then commented: "Just her profile has raised so rapidly. She really is the face for so many people on this planet about this crisis."
