A new revelation from Project Veritas has found that YouTube and Google labeled popular conservative commentators as “Nazis.”
In a leaked document published on June 25, an email from a Google employee, Liam Hopkins, described Ben Shapiro, Dr. Jordan Peterson, and Dennis Prager as “nazis using dog whistles.” He suggested that YouTube consider “disabling the suggestions feature” for these YouTube creators, meaning that their videos would no longer show up in the recommendations on other videos on the platform.
Hopkins, a member of Google’s “transparency and ethics” group, also mentioned that he didn’t think it was “beyond our capabilities” to identify “far right content” correctly. This is ironic because he labeled three respectable conservatives as “Nazis.”
YouTube has had a long history of restricting Dennis Prager’s PragerU on its platform. PragerU’s videos have been demonetized and filtered in the safety filter as “graphic content.” PragerU sued YouTube and is currently in the process of a second lawsuit with the media platform.
In the past two weeks, the whistleblower website headed by James O’Keefe has come under fire from Twitter, Reddit, and YouTube. Veritas’ latest project, which included several leaks about Google preparing for the 2020 election, was censored from both Reddit and YouTube in the 24 hours after its release. The video was flagged “due to a privacy claim by a third party,” according to Veritas.
The video was the second one deleted from Project Veritas’ account. An expose about Pinterest censorship was also flagged and pulled down due to a privacy claim.
The Google video includes footage of a Google head talking about preventing “the next Trump situation” in 2020. It also includes leaks documenting the suppression of content creators on YouTube who fell afoul of YouTube’s political beliefs.
