Is there a Trump antagonist who exceeds Richard Painter in his visceral loathing of the President? Painter gave a prime example of his Trump Derangement Syndrome on MSNBC this evening.
Appearing on Ari Melber's The Beat on MSNBC, responding to the news that Michael Cohen has been sentenced to three years in prison, Painter proposed that President Trump cop a plea and resign.
RICHARD PAINTER: If the lawyer gets three years, how much time should the client get? And that doesn't even include whatever Bob Mueller comes up with, with respect to Russia and obstruction of justice and the crimes that were committed there. This is entirely apart from the Russia investigation.
Donald Trump is in serious trouble. His lawyers ought to be telling him to negotiate a plea deal. It's time to negotiate a comprehensive plea deal for Donald Trump. Include federal and state charges, reduced charges, in return for his resignation. That's where this ought to be headed. That's where the Republicans in Congress ought to be driving this: toward a comprehensive plea deal for Donald Trump and his family members. Get him out of the White House. Have him resign. Plead guilty to lower charges. And let's move on as a country. Because it's quite clear: his goose is cooked here.
Note: As you'll see in the screencap graphic, the MSM likes to tout that Painter served as an ethics lawyer in Bush 43's administration. But Painter's a liberal from way back. In 1984, he was the chair of Harvard Students for Mondale. More recently, he took over from uber-lefty David Brock at CREW. And in 2018, Painter ran for a US Senate seat from Minnesota as a Democrat.
Painter is a strange bird, telling the newspapers he is a "a centrist in many ways, right up the middle," and then turning around and supporting Bernie Sanders "Medicare For All" socialist health care bill.
