Univision Features Cory Booker Admitting Dems Have a ‘Latino Problem’

October 22nd, 2018 4:17 PM

U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) appeared on Univision’s weekly political affairs talk show Al Punto, and admitted the veracity of the basis of several thinkpieces to emerge over the past few weeks - namely, that the Democrats are having a tough time persuading Hispanics to vote for them in the 2018 midterm elections.

Here’s Senator Booker admitting as much as aired on Univision’s Al Punto, on October 14, 2018:

JORGE RAMOS, SENIOR ANCHOR, UNIVISION: Do you believe that the Democrats have a Latino problem? An NPR-PBS poll says that 41% of Latinos approve what President Donald Trump has done to date. This is more than the 29% he obtained in the last election. Do you have a Latino problem?

SENATOR CORY BOOKER (D-NJ): Yes, yes. We have a problem with everyone in the United States now.

There are two additional things that Booker did during the interview which answer the question of *why* the Democrats have a “Latino Problem”.

After admitting the Democrats’ failure to captivate Hispanic interest, Booker proceeds to throw the party under the bus. Then, Booker touts his own strong voice. Finally, Booker proceeds to cite the issues that he thinks should be important to Hispanics in the 2018 midterms, to wit: immigration, Obamacare, and “education” (or free college for all).

Jorge Ramos being Jorge Ramos, there isn’t a single follow-up question inquiring about the reasons that may lead to depressed Democratic turnout among Hispanics. Instead, Ramos goes straight to whether or not Booker is going to run for the White House in 2020.

A fine topper to an odd segment with a startling yet straightforward admission - that the Democrats are running on Trump-hate and nothing else in 2018 and beyond.

Below is the referenced segment in its entirety, as broadcast on Univision’s Al Punto on Sunday, October 14th, 2018:

JORGE RAMOS, SENIOR ANCHOR, UNIVISION: Do you believe that the Democrats have a Latino problem? An NPR-PBS poll says that 41% of Latinos approve what President Donald Trump has done to date. This is more than the 29% he obtained in the last election. Do you have a Latino problem?

SENATOR CORY BOOKER (D-NJ): Yes, yes. We have a problem with everyone in the United States now. We need more people to support the ideas that are going to benefit everybody. And now the ideas of the Democratic Party are better. And now we need more support, more action. The most effective way to stop Donald Trump, the immigration policies, the healthcare policies, the most effective way is for us to vote in this election. So I’m going to continue with my strong voice. To the Latinos and to the community in general, we need great struggle in the days between now and November 6th, struggle for immigrant rights, struggle for healthcare, struggle for the children and education...education opportunities.
