While most of the liberal media have been silent on the latest developments in the domestic abuse allegations against DNC deputy chair Keith Ellison, CNN host Jake Tapper on Sunday brought up the issue of the liberal double standard between Ellison and U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on his show. And on her Saturday show, right-leaning CNN host S.E. Cupp also raised the double standard issue.
On CNN's State of the Union, as Hawaii Democratic Senator Mazie Hirono appeared as a guest, Tapper posed:
I've heard a lot of people saying that Democrats would be more credible about this issue if they were similarly outspoken when allegations like this are made about Democrats. And one example is Democratic Congressman and the deputy chairman of the DNC, Keith Ellison, who's been accused of emotional and physical abuse by an ex-girlfriend, Karen Monahan. In a debate on Friday, Ellison was asked if he's confident there won't be any more allegations against him.
After playing a clip of Congressman Ellison from the debate denying any abuse, Tapper added: "Wouldn't the concern about Kavanaugh and Professor Ford be more credible if Democrats were also condemning similar charges against Democrats in their midst, including Congressman Ellison?"
On her S.E. Cupp Unfiltered show on Saturday, Cupp brought up the fact that two women have made accusations against Congressman Ellison, and noted that Monahan "has said that her own party, the Democratic party, has smeared and isolated her." She soon wondered: "How can Democrats explain a very obvious double standard in outrage?"
Moments later, right-leaning CNN contributor Matt Lewis complained about the media double standard of not spending more time on Ellison's problems.
CNN has otherwise not given any other updates on the Ellison story since August 15, the day after he won his primary to run for attorney general of Minnesota.
Over on Fox News Channel, the recent developments have been aired several times. On Friday, The Ingraham Angle brought in correspondent Kristin Fisher, who informed viewers that Monahan released documentation that she spoke of the abuse with a doctor in the past, lending corroboration that it is not a story that she only just recently raised.
And, as Fox and Friends covered the issue on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the Daily Caller's Stephanie Hamill appeared on the Sunday show which aired video of her confronting anti-Kavanaugh liberal protesters on the issue.
