He didn't go full Hitler as many of his fellow leftists do in comparing President Donald Trump to the Nazi dictator but liberal historian Jon Meacham attempted to pull a sort of half-Hitler with his George Wallace comparison on Wednesday's Morning Joe. Meacham who likes to portray himself as the voice of reason comes off as unhinged with his comparison of Trump to the Democrat former governor of Alabama.
And this is as if George Wallace had won in 1968, that’s where we are. If we had been talking 50 years ago today, the level of violence in the country would have been incredibly high, we would have just buried senator Kennedy. Just buried Dr. King, heading into the Chicago democratic national convention, you had an immense amount of violence, both on the left and on the right. George Wallace carried five states, 13.5% of the vote in November ‘68, but he didn’t win. And the one through-line here from Charlottesville to this issue, is to use your phrase, a return to the most disturbing elements of white supremacy. White male supremacy, to be precise. In the national character. And what we have to do, and it’s these kinds of conversations that, that are essential, is there are about five elements that have to be rowing, some number of these elements have to be rowing in the right direction. The presidency, the Congress, the courts, the press and the people. And right now the presidency and the Congress are not rowing in the right direction. We have to have the other elements and we have to just keep pushing as exhausting as it is, as tiring as it is, as unpleasant as the other side is, you just keep fighting.
"Rowing in the right direction" for Meacham obviously means electing liberals and getting rid of Trump. Should you doubt me, just check out Meacham's own fantasy about a Democrat House impeaching Trump:
My own sense is, and this may sound kind of League of Women Voters-y, but the most important political story in the country right now in many ways are those 435 House races. Because I've been skeptical of this but I would now bet a good bit of money this is gonna end up in the House with some kind of impeachment proceeding and the makeup of that body and then ultimately the reaction of the United States Senate which is supposed to be the great deliberative check and the great final hammer on these things is... I think we're gonna end up. That's gonna be the season finale of this.
Oh, and why is Meacham concerned about the press "rowing in the right direction" since the mainstream media is almost completely on board with the liberal agenda he is constantly promoting?
