There was another tragic shooting by a disturbed person, which means it’s another opportunity for the liberal media to call for the government to take your guns away. But with the Santa Fe, Texas school shooting, the suspect didn’t use the media’s favorite gun to demonize, the AR-15, he used a sawed-off shotgun and a revolver. Both are common firearms for hunting and self-defense. But that didn’t stop NBC Sunday Today anchor Willie Geist and Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd from hoping “something” would come and restrict your “access” to your constitutional rights.
“Here we are again,” Geist huffed as he was introducing Todd on the program. “You know, I was thinking about the show you all put together at Meet the Press three months or so ago, when you said ‘is this time different?’” He went on to praise the radical anti-gun students from Parkland “who we continue to hear from.” He also suggested that his network had “talked” about every other facet of the issue that wasn’t gun control.
“What hope do you have, Chuck, this time something can be done, not just on guns but the totality of everything that changes this dynamic in our country,” Geist wondered.
After stumbling through the first part of his remarks, Todd surmised that the “brick wall” the left runs into when trying to protect schools was when they talked about limiting “access” to guns. “Because you can't, no matter how you look at this statistically, you keep coming back to the issue of: It’s how the people get their access to guns,” he declared.
Of course, Todd neglected to mention that sawed-off shotguns had been outlawed since the early 1900s. And the left’s false accusation that AR-15s were “weapons of war”doesn’t apply to revolvers, or either for that matter. So clearly, what Todd was suggesting here was limiting access to all firearms no matter what.
Todd then pointed to Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott’s pledge to hold roundtables on school safety as a sign that gun control was on its way to Texas. “This is the second mass shooting he’s had to deal with in seven months, the Sutherland Springs church shooting,” he recalled. What Todd conveniently overlooked when remembering the church shooting, and what the liberal media fails to mention routinely, was the fact the church shooter was stopped and chased off by a man with his own AR-15.
“So, there's two ways to look at it. You could say, ‘Geez, nothing has been done’ or ‘this is how change happens.’ It’s incremental and it’s small, but this is a rhetorical change, at a minimum, that you should at least acknowledge that’s taking place down in Texas,” Todd concluded.
Playing off of Todd, Geist touted the controversial gun restrictions enacted in Florida. “There were some real changes in Florida after Parkland in terms of raising the age to buy long guns and things like that.” Of course, there was no mention of the constitutional questions that arose from the laws and were still playing out.
One of the liberal media’s largest and most grotesque lies about the gun control the advocate for is that they’re not trying to take away your hunting or personal defense weapons. But that’s exactly what each of the Santa Fe shooter’s weapons was for. And now NBC is pushing to limit “access” to them.

We talked about all the elements of this. Mental illness. We talked about guns, we talked about school safety and the rest of it. What hope do you have, Chuck, this time something can be done, not just on guns but the totality of everything that changes this dynamic in our country?
CHUCK TODD: You know, at this point, you don't know. I mean— I – It still seems as if every time the brick wall you hit on this subject always goes to the issue of access to guns. Right? Because you can't, no matter how you look at this statistically, you keep coming back to the issue of: It’ how the people get their access to guns. And when you try to make the conversation about that, that's when the political walls come up and I think you end up hitting end up that brick wall of being able to get anything done.
That said, Willie, Governor Abbott's rhetoric was different this time than it’s been in previous shootings, just like Governor Rick Scott's rhetoric was different after Parkland than it was. And here you have Governor Abbott having these roundtable discussions. This is the second mass shooting he’s had to deal with in seven months, the Sutherland Springs church shooting.
