While making ABC’s annual “upfront” presentation to advertisers on Tuesday, left-wing late-night host Jimmy Kimmel just couldn’t resist slamming President Trump by describing him as “a lunatic” and, as a result, “we’re all gonna die.”
The liberal comedian made these remarks even after claiming in a preliminary interview that “I think people have had an ass-full of Donald Trump, and I feel like the upfront is a time to look within and make fun of ourselves.”
Also on Tuesday, Kimmel joked: “Our ratings are going down, and our prices are going up. Too bad, eat it. Our President is a lunatic, and we’re all gonna die.”
“If this continues,” he added, “it won’t say R.I.P. on our headstones, it will say K.P.I.,” a reference to Key Performance Indicators, a term that demonstrates how effectively a company is achieving key business objectives.
However, during a May 11 interview with Deadline's Dominic Patten, the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! sang a different tune. Patten stated that this event “will actually be your first upfronts of the Trump era. Have you been saving up a bellyful of barbs for the President and his ongoing big show?” Kimmel replied:
I hadn’t really thought about it that way, but I guess you’re right. Hopefully, it’ll be the last upfront of the Trump era, too.
So I don’t know, I don’t know how much focus there will be on that. I think people have had an ass-full of Donald Trump, and I feel like the upfront is a time to look within and make fun of ourselves.
“So next week is a Trump-free zone for you?” Patten asked.
“Well, I can’t imagine that it will be entirely Trump free, but I’m not planning on that to be my focus,” the comedian added.
Nevertheless, the Republican occupant of the White House wasn’t Kimmel’s only target on Tuesday.
“We have a new slogan this year at ABC: ‘Forward Together,’” he noted. “Hillary Clinton had a yard sale, and she let us have that for almost nothing.”
“Our ‘biggliest’ hit of the year is Roseanne,” he continued, “so everyone who says Hollywood is out of ideas, we’re not. It’s just that one of our new ideas was to Google ‘What were our old ideas?’”
“No one was expecting Roseanne to be a big hit,” Kimmel then stated. “But to be honest, we don’t expect any of our shows to be hits.”
“Roseanne‘s success proves that the older and crazier you are, the more today’s audience likes you,” he joked. “That’s why we’re proud to announce our new show: Gary Busey Proves 9/11 Never Happened.”
“I have to admit I’m excited about Murphy Brown. It’s refreshing to see anything brown on CBS,” he added to reported groans. “We even canceled Marvel’s Inhumans. Somehow we managed to have the only unsuccessful project with the word ‘Marvel’ in the title. Ever. It had never been done before.”
As NewsBusters previously reported, Donald Trump is probably Kimmel’s favorite target. In mid-January, the liberal late-night host slammed the President over use of the term “s**thole countries.”
Then, after Trump’s State of the Union address, Kimmel decided to play the moral arbiter of our time with an over-the-top sob segment on DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival law, in a segment intended to make Trump voters and conservatives look like narrow-minded monsters.
Of course, after the school shooting on February 14 in Florida, he blamed Trump and the GOP for causing the incident and described the President as “obviously mentally ill” for not giving in to the Left’s demands for gun control.
Unfortunately, the late-night host’s attacks on the President have apparently become so ingrained that he’s unable to refrain from it … even when he promises to do so.
