According to The View’s Joy Behar, “civilized” girls should still be separated from “Lord of the Flies” boys when it comes to scouting. The liberal co-host on Friday dissented from the idea that girls should be apart of the Boy Scouts, saying: “I would say my opinion of this, and it's not popular one, I don't think. I think that girls do not benefit through having boys in their midst at these young ages.”
Asked to explain her opinion, Behar added: “Boys, I don't know. They can turn into Lord of the Flies at any given moment. But girls are so civilized. You know?” Token conservative Meghan McCain agreed with her liberal co-host: “I need the table to brace themselves. I 100 percent agree with Joy on this. I think [the Scouts] should be still separate.”
Imagine what the response would be to Behar's comments if you swapped out "boys" for "girls."

After 108 years, the Boy Scouts of America have changed their name to go with their new policy of including girls among their ranks, and their new name is Scouts BSA. [ Laughter ] I think if you just said, you know, scouts of America, that would have been fine.

SUNNY HOSTIN: They're going to let girls in, and the program is going to have separate units anyway for boys and girls. so they will still stay divided along gender lines, but each will be able to work toward Eagle Scout, which is a huge honor and very difficult to get. I know that the Girl Scouts of America are feeling they will lose some of their membership as well.
JOY BEHAR: I would say my opinion of this, and it's not popular one, I don't think. I think that girls do not benefit through having boys in their midst at these young ages.
GOLDBERG: There are separate.
BEHAR: They are still going to have some interactions. Just in general, I went to an all-girls high school, as did you.
SARA HAINES: I went to an all girls college. Women.
BEHAR: Boys benefit from having girls in their midst. I'm not that sure girls benefit from having boys in their midst.
HAINES: How come?
BEHAR: Boys, I don't know. They can turn into Lord of the Flies at any given moment. But girls are so civilized. You know?
HAINES: A lot of the reasons the girls wanted to get into the Boy Scouts was about boy scouts were getting to do different things. And I can get on board with that because I think as a girl, people had to find a label for like you're a tomboy or an athletic one, or you have a brother. No one could just understand Sarah fitting in a wider idea of being a girl. And I wanted to push myself harder. I wasn't a Boy Scout or a girl scout, full disclosure. I don't like when they try to taper tasks to a gender.
