Remember when Bill Murray slithered away from the golf green he had just blown up in the movie Caddyshack? Liberal media are now doing their own version of slinking away -- from one of their own. Earlier this week liberal media closed ranks around Charlotte Observer reporter Jourdan Rodrigue after Cam Newton directed a sexist remark her way. However, she was quickly exposed as a racist, and media who came unglued on her behalf are now backing away.
Here's the chronological order of what happened.
During a Panthers' press conference Wednesday, Rodrigue asked Newton about a teammates' pass routes. Instead of just answering the question, Newton grinned and in his own immature way, said it's "funny to hear a female talk about routes."
Many in the media condemned Newton for making sexist remarks. Jackie McMullan, ESPN senior writer, said, "I think Cam Newton's a knucklehead."
USA Today's smartmouth video commentator Trysta Krick said:
"You know, like the only reason we (women) have a job in sports is because we're hot ... window dressing ... that is at best ... for you to look at and at worse an annoyance and inconvenience and a distraction for your game. And so, yes, Cam, we, too, know what you're trying to say."
Krick questioned Newton's passing mechanics and said, "hey, I'm just a woman. So don't sweat the technique, right? You just put up a fist in the end zone to show you are for racial equality and inclusion, and in the same week disparaged a female reporter. See the disconnect? We cant be outraged about sexism and not racism, and vice versa."
"He went out of his way to be dismissive and sexist toward a female reporter," said Maggie Gray, of CBS Sports Radio.
Newton tweeted an apology Thursday night. The furor hadn't even subsided yet by Friday when The Huffington Post's David Moye came out with a blog exposing racist skeletons in Rodrique's closet. Her past putdowns of Blacks and Native Americans were far worse than Newton's brief, foolish off-the-cuff remark. Women have been part of the sports media for a long time, and Newton should have just answered Rodrigue's question. But her defenders are no longer appearing in her corner since her foul racist remarks have been revealed. Moye exposed Rodrigue for the following tweets from 2012 and 2013:
Then came the "n" word!
From heroine to goat in less than a week, Rodrigue posted this apology.

There is no excuse for these tweets and the sentiment behind them. I am deeply sorry and apologize for them.
Case against Newton closed. There's nothing left to be gained by going there anymore. Exposed as a racist, Rodrigue is no longer useful to the sexism narrative. Liberal media are moving on and looking for new social justice battlefronts, and they might want to start vetting their people better before launching their next crusade.
