The View’s Sunny Hostin is “pro-choice,” whether she admits it or not, according to her co-hosts.
On Thursday, The View ladies slammed Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA) after a report revealed that the politician, a member of the House Pro-Life Caucus, encouraged his mistress to have an abortion. Both Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg took the opportunity to insist that their co-host, Sunny Hostin, was pro-choice because, they said, she wouldn’t “vote to overturn Roe v. Wade” or tell someone else “you can’t” have an abortion.
They wouldn’t take no for an answer, even when Hostin stressed she would likely advise others against abortion.
To begin the conversation, Goldberg bashed the pro-life movement.
“I appreciate all the folks who will never have an abortion,” she began, “But you can't make that decision for me and my family. You can't.”
Raised a pro-life Catholic, co-host Sunny Hostin agreed – because of a conversation she had with Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA).
“I had a conversation with Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton’s running mate,” she began. “And it was really interesting, because he’s Catholic as well. And he said, ‘Listen, I am anti-abortion, but I would never tell someone else, according to my faith, what to do.’ And I’ve moved into that camp.”
Because of that, Behar insisted that Hostin was pro-choice.
“I explained to Sunny,” Behar said, “the other day we were having this conversation and I said, ‘You are in fact pro-choice.’”
But Hostin disagreed: “I said I’m not.”
Behar still argued that she was pro-choice, “even though you’re against abortion.”
“Because you may not do it for yourself,” Behar said, “but you would not vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. That makes you pro-choice.”
“No,” Hostin responded.
That’s when Goldberg also chimed in to tell Sunny she was pro-choice, whether she liked it or not. “Here’s why you’re pro-choice, Sunny,” she urged.
“No,” Hostin said again.
“Stop. Listen,” Goldberg said. “You’re pro-choice because you’re not telling me I can’t.”
“You would never have an abortion,” Goldberg continued. “You don’t want – you would never encourage anyone, but you would never say to somebody, ‘I’m telling you, because my religion says it’s bad, you can’t.’”
Hostin disagreed again. “I might advise someone against it, if I’m being honest,” she pointed out.
Goldberg added, “But you’re not going to prev – you’re not going to say somebody, ‘you must, because I say this is what it is.’”
Finally, Sunny could agree. “I wouldn’t say that,” she said of the wording Goldberg used.
Goldberg’s argument contradicted a previous segment where she called herself and the ladies of The View “pro-life.” Hostin has also discussed abortion on The View in the past, saying “other people have their choices.”
In January, The View donned “pussy hats” in support of the pro-abortion Women’s March. The View crew has also called former presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson “pathetic” for speaking out against abortion and slammed actor Kelsey Grammer for wearing a pro-life T-shirt.
