Behold another sign of the apocalypse, if you’re into preparing for that sort of thing. According to the news site Axios (with help from SocialFlow), the Twitter mentions for President Trump’s infamous new typo “covfefe” were over 50 times larger on Wednesday than those involving far-left comedienne Kathy Griffin after her disturbing photo with a fake severed Trump head.
SocialFlow found that the peak mentions of Griffin came at 8:00 a.m. Eastern at only 6,000 while the peak for “covfefe” nods at 1:00 a.m. Eastern totaled 328,000. To be exact, that’s nearly 54 times larger.
Let that sink in....but wait, it gets worse! One would think mentions of the Paris climate agreement on Wednesday would be gargantuan when news began coming out that Trump might leave the accord on Thursday. Alas, it was not to be.
The peak for Wednesday’s Paris mentions came at 11:00 a.m. Eastern at 24,000. Over all, the “covfefe” hype was still over 10 times larger.
Put simply, this underlines the sad state of affairs in what not only the supposed diehards of "The Resistance" but what people at large care about. While they may claim that certain issues are more important, the dumb, bright, shiny object of “covfefe” drew more eyeballs and provided more intrigue.
If people aren’t going to have a serious debate about actual issues, perhaps not obsessing over dumb things like the President’s typo would give the media and their fans more credibility.
