Daily Show correspondent Hasan Minhaj was the special guest on Friday’s The View, where he shared his experience hosting the White House Correspondents' Dinner a few weeks ago and plugged his new Netflix stand up routine. While the Comedy Central comedian didn’t speak very frequently, when he did, it was usually to insult Republicans or Donald Trump (shocking).
From the show’s start, Minhaj was ready with the, ‘How racist, evil and stupid are Republicans?’ jokes. Minhaj reminisced about his time at the White House Correspondents' Dinner and how he heard that Ben Carson was slated to arrive, despite Trump, or “Lord Voldemort’s” orders that the Republicans, ie: the “Death Eaters,” not show up.
You know, Lord Voldemort had put out the memo, none of the Death Eaters were supposed to show up. This is a real thing. The Death Eaters weren’t supposed to be there. So the entire administration wasn’t there. But I was like, Ben Carson, where, how? Scour the room!
Trying to find Carson in the room, Minhaj snarked that he went through a process of elimination since there were only “three black people here.”
I was like, Van Jones is there. Cool, Don Lemon. Third random guy -- that's not Ben Carson, we're done. So I had all this Ben Carson material that had to go, unfortunately, had he been there I would have been, ‘Ben, did you get lost on the elevator, was it stuck?’ Oh, you guys don't know, Ben Carson has notoriously been stuck on elevators.
The Daily Show comedian followed up his joke by knocking Carson’s intelligence:
BILA: Is this a joke?
MINHAJ: This is a real thing!
BILA: Why does he get stuck on elevators?
MINHAJ: [rolls eyes] It's Ben Carson! [laughter and applause]
Later in the show, the panel discussed the interview with Kellyanne Conway and CNN’s Anderson Cooper this week where he infamously rolled his eyes at Conway’s response to a question. While the majority of the panel deemed it an unwise and unfit response from a journalist, Minhaj gushed about Cooper's good looks and then defended the CNN journalist, saying:
Every time you interview the Trump Administration it's like being on that old TV show "Boiling Points." They keep talking and they're just like just wait, just wait. At some point you have to be like, you're insane.
