All three networks on Monday eagerly hyped liberal celebrities trashing Donald Trump at Sunday night’s Golden Globes awards. ABC’s Good Morning America actually led the show with Meryl Streep slamming the President-elect. The Today show waited until five minutes into the program. The hosts at CBS This Morning restrained themselves until 7:06am ET.
A CBS graphic touted it as “Hollywood vs. Trump.” Reporter Kevin Frazier marveled that Streep “took the opportunity to talk about a real life performance by Donald Trump last year that she said stunned her.” No one noted that Streep has donated $113,000 to Democrats in just four years.
Regarding comments and gestures Trump made about journalist Serge Kovaleski in 2016, Frazier seemed impressed that the liberal show biz crowd loved it: “The audience listened with rapt attention.” Regarding actress Viola Davis, Frazier promoted, “Backstage, she voiced concern about what the presidential election says about the American people.”
Davis chided, “There is no way that we can have anyone in office that is not an extension of our own belief system. So then what does that say about us?”
As though this were surprising, Today co-host Natalie Morales explained, “But stars also took the opportunity to get political.” Liberal actors getting political? Not shocking.
The NBC show featured actor Hugh Laurie mocking, “I accept this award on behalf of psychopathic billionaires everywhere.”
On ABC’s Good Morning America, George Stephanopoulos opened the show by breathlessly hyping the celebrity attacks:
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Turned out to be a big news making night. Meryl Streep making headlines with that speech taking on Donald Trump and the President-elect is lashing back in just the last few minutes.

CHARLIE ROSE: President-elect Donald Trump is firing back at Hollywood stars who criticized him at the Golden Globes awards. Some of the entertainment industry’s biggest names, including Meryl Streep, award show host Jimmy Fallon and Viola Davis took swipes at Mr. Trump.
NORAH O’DONNELL: On Twitter, Mr. Trump denied Meryl Streep’s charge that he mocked a disabled a reporter. He called her “one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood” and a “Hillary flunky who lost big.” Entertainment Tonight co-host Kevin Frazier joins us now from the ET set in Los Angeles. Kevin, good morning.
KEVIN FRAZIER: Good morning. It might have been expected but it was startling nonetheless. Honoree Meryl Streep was among the big names who called out President-elect Trump. The political rhetoric managed to steal a little bit of the spotlight from La La Land’s history-making night, winning seven Golden Globe awards.
JIMMY FALLON: Already the Teleprompter is down so this is a great way to start the show.
FRAZIER: Technical difficulties almost kept host Jimmy Fallon from giving his opening monologue. But when he did, he helped set the tone for the night with a series of jokes about the incoming presidential administration.
FALLON: This is the Golden Globes, one of the few places left where America still honors the popular vote.
FRAZIER: More outspoken was Meryl Streep, who was given the honorary Cecil B. DeMille award. She took the opportunity to talk about a real life performance by Donald Trump last year that she said stunned her.
STREEP: It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in the country imitated a disabled reporter, someone he outranked in privilege, power, and the capacity to fight back.
FRAZIER: The audience listened with rapt attention while social media exploded in support and outrage.
STREEP: Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.
FRAZIER: Viola Davis won the award for best actress in a supporting role for Fences. Backstage, she voiced concern about what the presidential election says about the American people.
VIOLA DAVIS: There is no way that we can have anyone in office that is not an extension of our own belief system. So then what does that say about us?
FRAZIER: Actor Hugh Laurie quipped that he won his Golden Globe at the last ever ceremony by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
HUGH LAURIE: I don't mean to be gloomy. It's just that it has the words Hollywood, foreign and press in the title. I just don’t know what—
FRAZIER: Still this was the night to honor the highest achievements. La La Land took the risky step of bringing back the classic Hollywood musical and it paid off with a record seven Golden Globe awards, including best motion picture, musical or comedy, along with the best acting awards, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Now, back to the President-elect. In a phone interview overnight with the New York Times, Donald Trump said he didn't watch the globes last night but he called America Streep a Hillary lover. He said he was not surprised. He was attacked by, quote, “liberal movie people.” Gayle?
