NBC’s Late Night host Seth Meyers has a clearly documented record against conservatives, but the show from late Thursday into Friday sunk to a new low as he cracked a joke about John Boehner’s Lucifer comments toward Ted Cruz as an implication that he’s worse than the now-revealed child molester Dennis Hastert.
In his monologue and prior to his rant attacking the “hateful and discriminatory” bathroom law in North Carolina, Meyers invoked the former Speaker of the House’s comments about the 2016 GOP presidential candidate: “Former House Speaker John Boehner spoke about Ted Cruz and told reporters, ‘I get along with almost everyone, but I have never worked with a more miserable son of a bitch in my life.’”
Dragging Hastert into the quip, Meyers asserted to the audience’s amusement:
And keep in mind, Boehner used to work with Dennis Hastert. [LAUGHTER] When you go home, Google Dennis Hastert. [LAUGHTER] And you'll even be more bummed out than you are now. You're like, I'll Google him,, and it will be funny. Nah.
For anyone that might not have caught the drift, Meyers not-so-subtly hinted that the conservative senator is on par with a disgraced former elected official who was convicted of funneling money to former students he sexually abused decades ago while wrestling coach at an Illinois school.
Unfortunately, it’s not out of the ordinary for a program that makes no bones about its distaste of conservatives.
