If you're going to flaunt your superior knowledge, it's a good idea to get it right . . . On this evening's O'Reilly Factor, Geraldo Rivera scolded guest host Eric Bolling for pronouncing the state of Nevada as Ne-VA-da. Condescendingly instructed Rivera: "It's a Spanish word, Ne-VAH-da. Gringo."
There's just one problem. When it comes to pronouncing the name of the state, and not the Spanish word, Bolling was right and Rivera was wrong: "The only acceptable pronunciation of the state is 'Nev-AD-a,' not 'Nev-AH-da.' Pronouncing the state’s name incorrectly can draw ire among residents."--Time magazine.
Rivera's preening display was par for his course. Next time, before you show off, get it right, Geraldo.
GERALDO RIVERA: She'll win minority vote. She'll eek out a victory I believe in Nevada [which he pronounces Ne-VAH-da.]
ERIC BOLLING: But if she doesn't, Geraldo? Let's say she doesn't. Because most of the polls have it very, very close.
GERALDO: Very close.
BOLLINGL: Nevada [pronounced Ne-VA-da] comes before South Carolina. So you hit Nevada: if she loses, she hasn't done very well lately, she may start to roll, South Carolina--dominoes fall.
GERALDO: They do. I believe she will eek out -- let's talk next week if in fact Ne-VAH-da goes sour with Hillary --
BOLLING: Ne-VA-da.
GERALDO: Ne-VAH-da.
BOLLING: Ne-VA-da.
GERALDO: It's a Spanish word, Ne-VAH-da. Gringo.
