Mike Huckabee might be down in the polls, but he's still up to throwing a good political punch.
On this evening's MTP Daily, Chuck Todd suggested, by way of advocating the admission of Syrian refugees, that the US is better than Europe at "assimilation." Retorted Huckabee, speaking of one of the Boston bombers, "he really assimilated, until he blew up the Boston Marathon with a pressure cooker." Boom!
Huck even notched an extra point, pointing out that "we've got people on the Yale campus afraid of Halloween costumes, and we're trying to accommodate them? I think we ought to accommodate Americans that don't want their grandchildren and their children blown to smithereens or shot while they're going to school."
CHUCK TODD: Would you concede, would you concede we're better at assimilation than Europe is? And that maybe our vetting process has worked, considering we haven't had one of these situations?
MIKE HUCKABEE: Actually, I would say that we have. We had Oklahoma City, a beheading. We had Little Rock, which wasn't an assimilation area, but it was a radical issue.
TODD: It was homegrown.
HUCKABEE: We had the bombers of Boston. Those were --
TODD: Homegrown.
HUCKABEE: People who came here from Chechnya. They migrated here.
TODD: They were little kids. They were homegrown, sir, in many ways.
HUCKABEE: But they came with an intense desire, one on them even became a citizen. He really assimilated, until he blew up the Boston Marathon with a pressure cooker. Look, how much is too much? Right now we've got people on the Yale campus that are afraid of Halloween costumes and we're trying to accommodate them?
TODD: All right.
HUCKABEE: I think we ought to accommodate the fact that there are Americans who don't want their grandchildren and their children --
TODD: Okay.
HUCKABEE: -- blown to smithereens or shot when they go to school.
