According to Chris Matthews, Donald Trump brings out the “best” in Democrats and prompts them to show “gut patriotism” that has been hidden in the past. On Thursday, Matthews cheered, “[Trump] reminded them of what they believe in, the rights and hopes of immigrants, the freedom of religion in this country, the love of the country itself.”

MSNBC on Thursday night offered a movie trailer-style promo, complete with dramatic music and exciting visuals to tout the “united” Democrats “embracing history.” This is quite the contrast to the opening video to last week’s Republican National Convention. Kicking off the primetime coverage of the Democratic convention, an announcer intoned, “The baton has been passed... A party stands united.”
