As President Biden went to New York to tout his crime fighting plan, on Thrusday, MSNBC's Katy Tur and Jake Ward used the occasion to hype one California city's scheme to require gun owners to pay an annual fee and purchase liability insurance -- all in the name of fighting gun violence.

On Morning Joe, MSNBC contributor Elise Jordan says it is "shameful, shameful" of Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi telling US Olympians not to protest at the Olympics in China. Richard Haass and Al Sharpton are more tempered in their remarks, saying they "respectfully disagree" with Pelosi's position. Mika Brzezinski makes no comment other than a "wow."

On Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough summoned up  sympathy, if not for the devil, at least for Vladimir Putin. Scarborough's argued that we need to respect Russia's need for secure borders, and that "Ukraine is a knife that cuts right into the heart of Russia!" He suggested that we consider how the US would feel if Russia signed a mutual security pact with Mexico.
