WASHINGTON -- This week I am going to do something unusual. I am going to enter into a conversation with another columnist. Doing so was not so unusual a few decades back. Bill Buckley and James Jackson Kilpatrick did it when provoked, and it was always interesting. But today columnists are godlike figures. They communicate solely with Mount Olympus, and the result is often a bit tedious.

On Friday's New Day on CNN, during a segment focused on the major presidential candidates both accusing each other of "bigotry," host Chris Cuomo failed to challenge Rep. On Thursday night’s Kelly File, Jorge Ramos doubled down on his recent defense that journalists should ditch neutrality in their coverage of the 2016 presidential election contest. The panic on the faces of Clinton Foundation defenders grew more palpable on Wednesday night as the questions surrounding donors having meetings with Hillary Clinton’s State Department remained a part of the news cycle, so it was up to liberal journalists like Andrea Mitchell and MSNBC’s Hardball host Chris Matthews to defend and deflect these concerns as merely “political” ploys by Republicans. 

After all three network morning shows promoted the Clinton campaign’s attempt to discredit criticism of the Clinton Foundation on Wednesday, on Thursday, both NBC’s Today and CBS This Morning kept providing the Democratic nominee with a megaphone to defend the family charity and dismiss accusations of corruption.
