On the first show of the new year, ABC’s This Week co-anchor John Karl granted a friendly softball interview with zero challenging questions to the newly elected radical leftist Congressman-elect Maxwell Frost (FL-10). One of the more outrageous moments came when Karl touted Frost accosting Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis at an event that Frost admitted was private. 

On MSNBC's Velshi show, Daily Beast columnist Wajahat Ali said that although Trump isn't the same candidate he was in 2016 or 2020, "MAGA just isn't into" Ron DeSantis. "I'll believe it when I see it, right? I'll believe it when Brutus actually takes out Julius Caesar." For those not up on their Roman history, Brutus stabbed Caesar to death.

Between calls for gun control, the demise of Roe v. Wade, and the regular news cycle, it was a year where the hosts of late night traded in their jokes for liberal rants, lectures, and other wandering pontifications. So, without further ado, here are the top -- or maybe bottom 10 -- moments of late night 2022.

The lead story in the Christmas Day New York Times celebrated the disappointing Republican performance in Election 2022, under the guise of “protecting democracy”: “Slice of Voters Averted Threats To Fair Elections.” The online headline was just as dramatic: “How the Worst Fears for Democracy Were Averted in 2022.” 

On Thursday night's edition of The ReidOut on MSNBC, "Country Over Party" founder, and frequent MSNBC guest Matthew Dowd smeared Republicans who frequently use the slogan “America first” as a guiding philosophy when it comes to how government resources should be allocated. According to Dowd, America first is code for democracy last. 

On Tuesday's PBS NewsHour, the show devoted a segment to an LGBT activist who has been defending drag shows against efforts by conservatives to restrict their ability to involve children.

On Wednesday afternoon the FBI released a defiant statement which denied any wrongdoing that was detailed in the latest Twitter Files which were made public this week by journalist Michael Shellenberger who revealed that the FBI and Twitter colluded to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story. On Monday morning's Fox & Friends, Fox News fill-in co-anchor Rachel Campos-Duffy and contributor Joe Concha devoted a segment to discussing ABC's Martha Raddatz trying to blame Republicans for record numbers of illegal immigrants flooding across the Southern border.

In a recently viral video a teacher expressed his (I think) worries and anxiety about alerting his class that he’s transgender. The teacher sought advice from his TikTok followers on how to address questions of confused children in his class.
