Anti-Religious Bias

As previously demonstrated in this space, the “big three” networks of ABC, CBS, and NBC are relentless in attacking conservatives, Christians, and President Trump. Here’s the thing: It’s not just in their morning and evening newscasts, but also their primetime scripted programs.

The show was bigoted, vile and unfunny. The characters were one-dimensional, the gags were as obvious as they were offensive, and the entire thing never rose above predictable anti-Catholic, pro-gay agitprop. The ratings were bad and even the critics didn’t care for it. So of course ABC went ahead with development and then gave The Real O’Neals a second season. 

In the May 7 episode of HBO’s Veep titled “Justice,” former President Selina Meyers (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) attends the funeral for fictitious Supreme Court Justice Tenny and takes a swipe at a Supreme Court decision. The episode also perfectly illustrates how a cable news station (in this case CNN) can run with a rumor whether it is based in truth or not, aka fake news.

If you’re a conservative who cringes whenever the Hollywood left sneaks political punches into movies and shows, brace yourself for the brand-new Netflix original series Girlboss, which premiered April 21.

On Thursday afternoon, news broke that Russia had officially banned its community of Jehovah’s Witnesses, labelling the religious sect an “extremist group.” However, although CBS and NBC discussed the legalization of pot, none of the evening network news shows mentioned the Kremlin’s egregious breach of religious freedom.

Well, TBS’s The Detour is at it again. The April 18th episode, “The Trip,” continued the show’s utter contempt for anything to do with Christianity or Christian values. With other issues, the show has done a hit and run, keeping the mockery to one episode and then moving on to other targets.

As most readers may know by now, one of the biggest Trump-haters in Hollywood is television producer Shonda Rhimes, a fanatical progressive who has created the highly successful prime time soap operas Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal for ABC. Rhimes is now admitting she is in a “trauma” as a result of her candidate in Hillary Clinton, losing the 2016 presidential election.   

Hollywood Reporter critic Daniel Fienberg found ominous parallels in The Handmaid’s Tale a series on Hulu that debuts its first three episodes April 26. The subhead: “Hulu's all-too-timely adaptation of Margaret Atwood's novel is one of the spring's best new shows and makes Elisabeth Moss an immediate Emmy contender.”  

Oprah’s show Greenleaf, a drama featuring a Christian “megachurch” and the fallible humans behind it, has been all over the map when it comes to representing Christian values accurately. One minute, the show is depicting gay conversion therapy programs in a positive light. The next, it’s sending the message that Christians who don’t support gay marriage are “broken.”

While Sunday's episode of HBO’s Crashing, “The Baptism,” had its fair share of Christian bashing, it also offered some positive Christian messages.
