Anti-Religious Bias

It used to be that journalists didn’t need fire safety seminars to know they could get burned publishing stories that lacked facts or context. But when the original, deceptively edited video of Nathan Phillips and the Covington kids emerged, the press swaddled itself in oily rags, grabbed a Zippo and went full “Johnny Human Torch.”

Despite terrible storylines and a notable, real-life #MeToo-type scandal, Showtime’s SMILF has somehow returned for a second season. In an effort to prove how grossly insane that decision was, the latest episode goes full throttle with the disgusting and sacrilegious “humor.” Sadly, last week's fairly tame season two premiere seems to have only been a fluke.

In a disgusting Thursday afternoon tweet, New York Times reporter Dan Levin solicited information from people on Twitter looking to “expose Christian schools”, as if they were some kind of a scourge. The Hill media reporter, Joe Concha unloaded on Levin for going into it with a “nefarious agenda” during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson Tonight.

Those who weighed in on this Covington Catholic High School student story include some members of the Catholic clergy, Catholic lay leaders, and non-Catholics. Some were temperate in their remarks and some were vicious. Some have issued a full-throated apology, while others have offered less than a complete apology. Others are sticking to their guns. Two persons went off the cliff.

Tuesday afternoon’s CNN Newsroom dedicated a full segment to the shameful security threats to Covington Catholic High School, its students, and their families.
