Twitter obliterated an anti-establishment journalism outlet @Gatewaypundit and conservative movement leaders in a shocking escalation of censorship.
The Gateway Pundit verified Twitter account was suspended indefinitely following a post that went viral. Twitter had taken similar action against other high profile conservative icons ranging from conservative activist Pamela Geller to Conservative radio personality Wayne Allyn Root, all in a matter of days in early February.
Eliminating The Gateway Pundit’s ability to break its stories on Twitter would curb the reach of the anti-establishment outlet going forward.
The account, managed by the website’s founder and editor Jim Hoft, with the handle “@gatewaypundit” was suspended. The suspension took place shortly after “exclusive video from the TCF Center showing late-night deliveries of tens of thousands of votes to the TCF Center HOURS AFTER the deadline to turn in absentee ballots,” Hoft said in a blog. “The absentee ballots were counted before election day. The only absentee ballots they had left to count came in from the Zuckerberg boxes that were checked hourly.” Hoft’s tweet discussed the exclusive video obtained by The Gateway Pundit. The tweet about the video reportedly had “2.2 thousand tweets and over 7,200 likes” before the tweet itself and the entire account were both destroyed.
A Twitter spokesperson told the MRC Gateway Pundit “was permanently suspended for repeated violations of our civic integrity policy.”
Conservative activist Pamela Geller was suspended from Twitter as well. “Pamela Geller’s account has been permanently suspended by Twitter,” New York Magazine contributor Yashar Ali tweeted Feb. 7.
Far left cancel culture organization Sleeping Giants, one of the groups behind the so-called “Stop Hate for Profit” campaign, took joy in Geller’s suspension. “CONFIRMED: Anti-Muslim ‘activist’ Pamela Geller has been suspended by Twitter,” the organization’s official account tweeted Feb. 7.
Twitter has not yet responded to inquiry as to why Geller was suspended.
Conservative radio personality Wayne Allyn Root was also purged from Twitter. “A spokesperson for the social media giant told The [Washington] Post in a statement Monday that both Hoft and Root’s accounts were permanently barred ‘for repeated violations of our civic integrity policy,’” the New York Post reported.
"‘I am in shock,’ Root told Fox News. ‘It appears to be a permanent ban. Although I don’t know. Twitter never warned me. ... And never sent any communication saying I’ve been suspended or banned. I simply tried to tweet yesterday afternoon and could not. But unlike a previous suspension... My followers suddenly said 0,’" reported Fox News.
