This was the week when Kossacks discovered Herman Cain in a big way...and by "discovered" I mean "singled out for venomous condescension." Another Kossack asserted that cable-news coverage of Weinergate was designed not to inform and enlighten, but rather to sexually arouse the numerous "zombie[s]" in the audience.
As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym.
Daily Kos Week in Review will return on June 26. Happy Father's Day!
Seneca Doane: Cain is the Republicans' favorite racist'
...Cain can get away with saying more racist things than [Gingrich] can, because white (i.e., almost all) Republicans think that because he's Black, he can't be racist, even if he's trotting out every vicious anti-Black stereotype in the book to the delight of white onlookers...
Hunter: Cain's GOP is the party of dumb answers
...[Herman] Cain [is] in the long line of Republicans that think what this country really needs is ridiculous, preschool-level rules able to be implemented by rote or by stupid people...
I'm not sure if America is governed by dumb people or not...well, let me rephrase that. I'm momentarily going to set aside the question of whether America is governed by dumb people or not. But it seems that most Republican leaders and presidential candidates are convinced that, at the least, Americans want dumb answers to all their problems. The problem with our laws? Too long! The problem with history? Too damn complicated! The problem with government? It does a bunch of stuff I don't have time to understand – like volcano monitoring!...
Mark Sumner: Republicans look abroad for inspiration
What nation represents the Conservative Republican ideal? Is it China, where a single party can clamp down hard on personal freedom while ignoring those bothersome safety and environmental regulations whenever it suits them? Maybe it's Somalia, the host nation for all free market all the time...
DemFromCT: Mitt, T-Paw aren't angry enough to suit the Tea Party
...[T]he GOP seems so confused about its future and divided about its vision. Without gay bashing, and with a rising Latino electorate, what have they got? They've got Mitt Romney, and Tim Pawlenty if he falters.
And that, when all is said and done, is the main reason the field is so weak. Slice it and dice it any way you want, neither Romney nor Pawlenty is going to fire up the evangelicals with their candidacy or satisfy the tea party by ripping out Obama's beating, living heart on TV and selling it for a profit on eBay. Anything short of that is going to be a dis-satisfier...
Vyan: Palin's Paul Revere comments were coded for her fans
...Palin...is on a deliberate Disinformation Campaign to play to her Militia Minded "2nd Amendment Remedies" Base. What she said...wasn't just a flub, it was actually what she believes or more importantly what she probably correctly understand that her supporters believe.
...[She] is really saying "I'm One Of YOU!" - not one of them - the Filthy Gun Hating, America-Hating Left!...
These [Palin supporters] are truly living in an Alternate Reality from our own - one where fertilized eggs are people, lower taxes rates mystically creates greater tax revenue, jobs only happen by the magic of the market, Government jobs don't count, the President is an Illegal Alien Nazi Muslim...
MinistryOfTruth: The media are biased...against Democrats
...If a Democrat is accused of a scandal, the media will demand that they resign immediately and pursue the story to the ends of the earth. If a Republicans is accused of a scandal, the media will report it for a few days and then forget, because Fox News, AM Radio and the rest of the right wing noise machine will simply NOT REPORT IT...
...The media has one set of rules for Democrats and another set of rules for Republicans. Republicans are allowed to lie about WMD's, torture, Death Panels, the cause of the deficit, anything and everything, including their sex scandals until the moment they get busted, and then the media gets bored and moves on, but Democrats aren't allowed to lie about their sex scandals, and the Democrats who do get caught are never EVER allowed to forget about it...
Alex Malecki: Weinergate is merely titillating trivia
...[T]he job of the modern press corp is NOT to explain, elucidate or help Americans understand any major issue. It is the job of the modern press corp to titillate viewers with the supposedly abnormal, immoral, bizarre nonpolitical behavior of those in the public eye so that each and every television zombie sitting in their Lazy-Boy can lean back, have more of the cable t.v. wash over them and then from their near horizontal position place their hands into their pants for a nice round of spank the monkey while they realize just how much better a person they are than most everyone else. Cable news has replaced the confessional and the priest is spilling the beans to the entire congregation.
