HuffPost — previously known as the Huffington Post, the far-left entity whose cashed-out original owners made themselves millionaires on the backs of thousands of unpaid bloggers — "laid off 39 staffers on Wednesday, a move that follows parent company AOL's acquisition by telecom giant Verizon."
On Thursday, Sam Stein, the website's senior politics editor, demonstrated such tone-deafness that one has to wonder how he escaped being among those who were let go.
Despite the layoffs, Stein, who also appears regularly on MSNBC, clearly has too much time on his hands — time which he is apparently spending looking for ever more bizarre reasons to be bothered by President Donald Trump.
In a now-deleted Thursday morning tweet, Stein questioned why Trump is communicating updated medical news about Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise, who was shot early Wednesday morning at the Republican Party's men's congressional baseball team practice (HT Weasel Zippers):
Moments later, Stein tweeted: "it's not a big deal. it's just... odd." Then why did he publish it in the first place? How many people in a position similar to Stein's have the time to bore their readers with tweets that aren't "a big deal"?
Stein, in two tweets several hours later:
- Claimed that "this was poorly phrased and I'm sorry i posted it. I've tried to explain what i meant to a few folks. but twitter's not the right forum."
- Announced that "i'm going to delete it now."
Stein was "weirded out" by a grand total of two Wednesday Trump tweets and a separate statement Thursday.
Here are the tweets:
Then on Thursday, minutes before Stein's "weirded out" tweet, Trump indicated that Scalise was "in some trouble":
"It's been much more difficult than people even thought at the time," Trump said Thursday at the start of a White House event on apprenticeship.
"He's in some trouble, but he's a great fighter and he's going to be OK, we hope."
What's "odd" is that the senior political director for a formerly leading but now shrinking far-left news source finds the President's interest in the health of a congressman who has just been shot "odd."
I don't know, Sam, it just might be possible that Trump actually cares about the health of a congressman who was shot.
And this is a guy the HuffPost kept?
As of 11 a.m. on Friday, the latest on Scalise's condition was as follows:
June 15, 2017, 8:10 pm
Earlier today, Congressman Steve Scalise underwent a second surgery related to his internal injuries and a broken bone in his leg. He remains in critical condition, but has improved in the last 24 hours. The Congressman will require additional operations, and will be in the hospital for some time. At the request of the family, we will continue to provide periodic updates.
That wasn't a trauma-inducing statement from Trump. It's last night's official statement from MedStar Washington Hospital Center. We wouldn't want to "weird out" Sam Stein any more than he already is — if that's even possible.
