The Democrat newspapers and networks are decrying "controversial" mid-decade redistricting by Republicans in Texas. It's partisan...but it's also partisan when Democrats do it in blue states. The partisan press doesn't consider that "news."
Redistricting is an issue for political junkies. Your average American doesn’t obsess over district maps, even when they help determine who’s in the majority. They passed a redistricting plan out of committee in Texas on Saturday, and now some Texas Democrats have flown to Illinois to deny a legislative quorum.
Parker Thayer of the Capital Research Center tickled me by tweeting: “Going to Illinois to protest gerrymandering is like going to Wisconsin to protest cheese.” Redistricting in blue states is never national “news,” because maximizing Democrat seats is considered wonderfully just and humane.
As Jorge Bonilla pointed out in his article on George Stephanopoulos freaking out over Texas, “no conversation on redistricting can be taken seriously that doesn’t also mention Illinois, California, Washington or Oregon (among others).” Our one-sided media only consider gerrymandering evil when Republicans are accused of doing it.
Then there are the partisan "fact checkers." PolitiFact founder Bill Adair told host Jon Stewart last October that the reason why Republicans get fact-checked more is because “lying... has just become a culture” in conservative circles.
As the front page of the New York Times editorializes about Trump waging a "War On Facts," it's a good time to remind you that the "fact checkers" are waging a War On Trump. July's target list from PolitiFact dramatically underlines their leftist tilt. They're not even trying to hide it.
In a review of "Truth-O-Meter" claims on elected or appointed officials in July, PolitiFact gave Republicans ten rulings of "Mostly False" or worse, and one Mostly True. There were no "Half True" ratings. It's 10 to 1. President Trump all by himself drew three "Pants on Fire" attacks, and two False flags. By contrast, the Democrats drew zero "Mostly False" or worse ratings. There was one "True," two "Mostly Trues," and two "Half Trues." Or to contrast with the GOP, take out the half-takes and it's zero-to-three.
Now, if you add the July numbers to our count of the first six months of 2025, PolitiFact tagged the Republicans as “Mostly False,” “False,” or “Pants On Fire” on 68 of 79 occasions (86 percent). The Democrats were rated “Mostly False” or worse in nine of 28 checks (32 percent). Donald Trump landed on the False side on all 29 occasions he was checked. Yes, Trump has been "checked" more than all elected/appointed Democrats combined.
As we’ve noted, Glenn Kessler at The Washington Post this year has some kind of socialist Senioritis on his Fact Checker stats. When it came to awarding Pinocchios in 2025, the ratio was 105 to 4.
