On Thursday night, the CBS Evening News blasted Trump border czar Tom Homan as pushing an unconstitutional, careless assault on illegal “members of the community,” complete with family separations. By contrast, NBC Nightly News balanced excerpts of their interview with Homan with reactions from a leftist advocate.
CBS weekend anchor Jericka Duncan started with a warning:
President-Elect Donald Trump promises repeatedly to begin the latest deportation operation in American history on his first returning to office. And now his incoming border czar is detailing how that will play out, including what may happen to some of the children of undocumented immigrants. We are talking about kids who were born here and are American citizens!
CBS reporter Lilia Luciano turned to a Democrat mayor, although she failed to mention the party label: “In the New Jersey city of Englewood, mayor Michael J Wildes, who is also an immigration attorney, says member of his community are on edge."

CBS ran a clip of Homan on CNN telling Kaitlan Collins they plan on tent structures with 100,000 beds to get deportations moving. Luciano highlighted family separation:
LUCIANO: The operation would detain families and give undocumented parents the choice of leaving children born in the United States behind, or being deported with them.
WILDES: We are dealing here with American citizens who can't speak for themselves.
LUCIANO: Is it constitutional?
WILDES: I don't think so. The administration's going to say "we are not going to separate moms and dads, mom and dad. It's their privilege if they want to leave with their child." It's a cute way of saying we don't care.
LUCIANO: There would be workplace raids, which will upset employers, Homan says, and the mass deportation plan will cost roughly ten times ICE's annual budget.
Once again, liberal journalists never questioned the cost of Biden's mass importation, but suddenly they're budget hawks.
Luciano concluded: "Homan, who oversaw the policy that separated some 3,000 children from their parents during Trump's first term in office, said that mass deportation campaign of undocumented immigrants will begin on day one of the new Trump administration."
On NBC, reporter Sam Brock looked fair and balanced next to the CBS rant. Brock explained “Tonight, the impending clash between the incoming administration and sanctuary cities looks closer to combustion.” Democrat-run cities and counties like San Diego are throwing up obstacles to deporting illegal aliens in their jurisdiction.
Homan said he was shocked, but "we're still coming to San Diego and going to do our job. It's more difficult but we're still doing it.”
On NBC, Sam Brock secured an interview with Trump border czar Tom Homan, so it gave Homan a fair shot to explain their aims, and how blue cities are revolting. A leftist advocate for illegal migrants forcefully rebutted Homan's points. pic.twitter.com/2zOp7KsV4Z

Brock balanced that with Murad Awawdeh of the New York Immigration Coalition: “It's unfathomable to hear that the incoming administration wants to devastate over 20 million American families in this country who live in mixed-status households.”
The leftist worried about Trump reinstating "controversial" family detention. Homan said it’s not like a jail, that children would have education programs. Awawdeh replied “There’s no such thing as a soft detention site.”
Brock noted the Biden administration signed a consent decree in 2023 with the leftist American Civil Liberties Union to ban family separation for eight years. Homan said they might re-litigate that.
