Joy Reid: Trump Win Will Lead to 'Camps,' Pelosi and Schiff May Be Headed to Jail

Tim Hains at Real Clear Politics captured crazy comments from MSNBC host Joy Reid from an October 15 panel discussion at the Brookings Institution, co-hosted by the leftist Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) as they released an "American Values" survey.

Reid started by trashing the Electoral College. "We have a system in this country, based on the slavery period, in which the American people do not elect the president, the Electoral College elects the president." Like many leftists, she thinks the popular vote alone should count. It continued:

We know if Kamala Harris wins by 3 million votes and yet does not become president, she will concede. That’s a no-brainer. We also know that if Donald Trump does not win the election, he will not concede. He will proceed to try to bring us to civil war, try to drag the election through the courts, and have Mike Johnson make him president or have John Roberts make him president. We know how this is going and where it is heading.

But Reid then started talking wildly about putting politicians in camps:

REID: And the last thing I will say is if Donald Trump does win, there won’t be a situation where Democrats go back and figure out how to get more voters or change their positions.

There will be camps. There will be Project 2025. There could be arrests of people like Adam Schiff, there could be Nancy Pelosi being hauled off to jail. If you don’t think that’s possible, then you really don’t understand that there is no American exceptionalism. We are a country like any other. My father lived under Mobutu. If you ran against his party, you go to jail -- that happened in my father's lifetime. Maduro is putting people in jail if they find on your WhatsApp that you are saying things against him. That is happening right now in our neighboring country that wants to invade my mother's country, Guyana, because they have oil.

These things are happening in our neighborhoods. Our democracy is much more like a Latin American democracy than it is like England, Germany, or any part of Europe. We are a Latin American country, so everything you see happening in Brazil or Venezuela could happen here. There isn’t going to be an opportunity for Vice President Harris to be the bigger person, because we will be fighting for our survival as a democracy, and some people will be fighting for their actual survival.

So, I think the question misses the point because if Kamala Harris does not win, it is not clear there will be another election. Those are the stakes, unfortunately.

As usual, Reid didn't ponder that Trump supporters Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro were sent to jail for contempt of Congress, and Democrats haven't gone to jail over that offense.
