As the American war effort in Afghanistan ended, the news environment for President Biden is bad right now, but it could be a lot worse. Imagine how the press would react if all this happened after President Trump had won a second term. Every crying war widow and dissenting colonel would be magnified intensely.
The media aren't highlighting the family of Rylee McCollum, who lost their son, brother, and husband in the suicide bombing in Kabul. There are no Cindy Sheehans now.
There's no hero treatment for Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller, who posted a video on Facebook demanding accountability from senior Pentagon leaders for the Afghanistan withdrawal. He wasn't going to be honored like Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a star witness at the first impeachment of Donald Trump.
Instead, liberal media figures circle defensively around Biden. Matthew Dowd salutes Biden for doing "yeoman's work" in Afghanistan. David Rothkopf insists you can't blame Biden for anything, even during his eight years as vice president. Brian Stelter keeps bringing on liberal panels to trash the media for being too rough with Biden. Whatever happened to attacking the press equaled attacking the First Amendment?
