Mitt Romney Drops Out of 'The View,' But Ann Will Appear Solo

Mitt Romney has dropped out of his scheduled appearance on ABC’s The View, although his wife Ann will appear as scheduled on Thursday. The Huffington Post suggests that Romney said yes to the appearance after disparaging this show in the secret Mother Jones video in which he made “devastating comments” about the “47 percent.”

Why not? Liberals would say, as David Shuster put it on Current TV, “Because he’s a chicken, that’s why!” He added: "If you've got any integrity and you say yes, I'll go on your show, then you follow through.”

Appearing Monday night on The Young Turks show, Shuster added the old trope: “If you're avoid of Whoopi Goldberg or Joy Behar, what are going to do when Ahmadinejad has been threatening missiles on your troops?”

Walters announced the withdrawal on Monday and wished Romney would change his mind. That wouldn’t happen if he watched the John McCain appearance. No change wouldn happen if Romney reviewed the John McCain appearance on September 12, 2008, the one where Whoopi Goldberg asked the GOP nominee “do I have to be worried about becoming a slave again?'

Walters said:

Gov. Romney was supposed to be on with us this Thursday with Ann Romney. We were looking forward to it. Over the weekend, his people said that he had scheduling problems and would not be coming on with us. Nor at this point did he feel that he could reschedule. We are happy to have Mrs. Romney on with us. We are sorry that we won't have Governor Romney and that's the situation...He can change his mind and we hope he does. It would be our pleasure to have him on the program.
