Tabloid ABC BURIES VP Harris Finally Visiting Border, Devotes 12 Minutes to Britney Spears

June 24th, 2021 11:45 AM

After botching her leadership role and giving embarrassing interviews, Kamala Harris will finally visit the southern border on Friday. Yet ABC, the same network that ridiculously cheered her “clear” and “blunt” handling of the debacle, on Wednesday and Thursday allowed a scant 15 seconds to the belated visit. In contrast, ABC devoted 12 minutes and 6 seconds to the tabloid sensation of Britney Spears and the battle over her financial freedom.

Good Morning America on Thursday completely censored the tardy plans by the White House to finally send the Vice President south. Instead, GMA fixated on Spears for 10 minutes and 29 seconds. Clearly, the hosts have their priorities. On Wednesday’s World News Tonight, anchor David Muir allowed a meager 15 seconds.

And Vice President Kamala Harris will visit the border near El Paso on Friday, we've learned. Her first visit since President Biden tapped her in March to tackle the root causes of migration from Central America. She's visited Guatemala and Mexico and will now visit the U.S. border.

Notice that even with just 15 seconds, Muir tried to promote the VP’s credentials at the border. World News Tonight spent 1 minute and 37 seconds on Spears, bringing the ABC total to just over 12 minutes on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

On June 8, ABC’s Robin Roberts used Good Morning America to desperately spin for Harris: “Vice President Kamala Harris on her first international trip since taking office with a clear message for anyone looking to illegally cross the border.” Trying to make Harris seem tough, reporter Cecilia Vega spouted the same talking points: “On her first foreign trip as Vice President Kamala Harris issuing a direct warning to anyone considering making the illegal journey north.”

This was the same day that Harris botched an NBC interview in which she lied that “we’ve been to the border.” (She hadn’t.)

In contrast, CBS This Morning on Thursday managed to actually mention criticism of the VP: Guest host Jericka Duncan reminded:

In other news, Vice president Kamala Harris plans to visit the southern border tomorrow after hearing heavy criticism from Republicans. Harris is leading the Biden administration's response to the rise in migrants seeking to enter the U.S. So far she has not been to the border to see the current situation firsthand.

JERICKA DUNCAN: In other news, Vice president Kamala Harris plans to visit the southern border tomorrow after hearing heavy criticism from Republicans. Harris is leading the Biden administration's response to the rise in migrants seeking to enter the U.S. So far she has not been to the border to see the current situation firsthand.

NANCY CORDES: Republicans, as you mentioned, have been hammering the vice president for not going to the border sooner. She did make a trip to Guatemala and Mexico earlier this month and said there that she's focused on addressing the root causes of migration rather than making, quote, grand gestures.
