How Crazed Was MSNBC Late Night While You Slept? THIS Crazy

January 6th, 2021 11:42 AM

The unhinged partisan hacks at MSNBC used the early hours of Wednesday morning to combine glee with rage, trashing the GOP “devils” and hailing “Queen” Stacey Abrams for her work in Tuesday’s Georgia special elections. Also, according to former Newsweek editor Jonathan Alter, democracy can only be “restored” when all offending Republicans are banished.

Here's what happened while you were sleeping. MSNBC co-host Lawrence O’Donnell happily wondered, “Where does Stacey Abrams belong in the voter organizing hall of fame?” Guest Maria Teresa Kumar described mobilizing partisan Democrats as some kind of unifying event.

[Abrams is] the queen, Lawrence. She's the one who has brought all these different groups of Americans in a time of Trump tribalism to say, “We're one, we're a voice, we're together so much stronger. And we can bring incredible impact and change.”

Kumar then coopted the Charlie Daniels song “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” to slime her GOP opponents:

You know, everybody kept saying, singing this one Georgia song. The one that I keep thinking in my head is "The Devil Goes Down to Georgia." And basically says the devil is going packing, because the Georgians, the community is standing up, rising, voting and saying, “This is a new pathway for how America can be."

Guest Jonathan Alter raged at Republicans questioning the presidential election in the Senate (even though the press loved it when Democrats did the same thing), demanding they all be “punished.”

Yes [Senator Kelly Loeffler is] a member of the sedition caucus. We need to focus on this, because they cannot, in the years ahead, go unpunished or they will challenge and litigate every future election. If they think they can get away with it. So I think we need to establish almost the lunacy of what these folks are arguing

...

That's completely idiotic, anti-democratic, and dangerous. And Republicans will be arguing for that tomorrow and they must be confronted on that. And we must restore our democracy in the next few years.

LAWRENCE O’DONNELL: Where does Stacey Abrams belong in the voter organizing hall of fame?

MARIA TERESA KUMAR: She's the queen, Lawrence. She's the one who has brought all these different groups of Americans in a time of Trump tribalism to say, “We're one, we're a voice, we're together so much stronger. And we can bring incredible impact and change.” And she is a blueprint for the future. But the groups on the ground, the New Georgia project, through Voto Latino, the list goes on. It was a collective effort. And the amount of love that came in to Georgia saying “We need you, Georgia is standing up and rising.” You know, everybody kept saying, singing this one Georgia song. The one that I keep thinking in my head is "The Devil Goes Down to Georgia." And basically says the devil is going packing, because the Georgians, the community is standing up, rising, voting and saying, “This is a new pathway for how America can be. Not just in this election, but for the next decade.

LAWRENCE O’DONNELL: Jonathan Alter, Kelly Loeffler will be on the Senate floor tomorrow as a defeated senator voting against democracy on the Senate floor tomorrow.

JONATHAN ALTER: Yes, a member of the sedition caucus. We need to focus on this, because they cannot, in the years ahead, go unpunished or they will challenge and litigate every future election. If they think they can get away with it. So I think we need to establish almost the lunacy of what these folks are arguing. Lawrence, I like to use a prop that I hope people will get accustomed to. Some scissors. What they're saying is “Clip off the top of the ballot where Joe Biden won, discount that. But the bottom of the ballot, where I won, that counts.” That's completely idiotic, anti-democratic, and dangerous. And Republicans will be arguing for that tomorrow and they must be confronted on that. And we must restore our democracy in the next few years.

ALI VELSHI: Kurt Bardella only two Republican senators have to go along with the idea that we're going to certify the results as is expected tomorrow. We have more than two. I want to put a screen up right now. There are at least 25 GOP senators who will support that. That's 25 short of 50 at the moment, which is kind of ridiculous, but it does tell me there are 25 who are going to support it and there are at least 13 who are not going to support it, which means there are 11 in the middle who haven't made a commitment, which is kind of spineless at this point in the game. The Republican Party is not going to be one party for very long.

KURT BARDELLA: What we're seeing right now is the opening stages of what is going to be an all-out civil war within the Republican party between those who still support democracy and believe that our Republican comes first and those willing to cast it aside in a craven attempt to try to hold on to power.
