Over four nights, MSNBC trashed the Republican National Convention as a “repugnant” “crime” and repeatedly censored the speakers, skipping several speeches. But the whole hypocrisy and ridiculousness of the cable channel’s coverage might be distilled down to one moment. On Thursday night, convention speaker Tom Cotton hammered Joe Biden, saying things like this:
Barack Obama's own Secretary of Defense said Joe Biden has been wrong on nearly every major national security decision over the past four decades….. Joe Biden would be as wrong and weak over the next four years as he has been for the last 50.
The Arkansas Senator’s comments did not sit well with convention co-anchor Rachel Maddow. The second Cotton was done, she spat, “We're just going to interject here and try and get a little bit of a reality check on some of Senator Cotton’s comments.” Who would be the best person to provide a “reality check” about Republican claims against Biden? Obviously, Ben Rhodes, the man who was Deputy National Security Advisor under the Obama/Biden administration.
Maddow tossed this laughable softball: “I want to you a chance to give us a reality check of what we heard from Senator Cotton. I want to ask you what stood out to you?” Not shockingly, the Obama/Biden official did not like Cotton’s speech.
The MSNBC host added, “At the outset of him saying that Joe Biden cuddled dictators while President Trump has been standing up to China and has been clear eyed about the Chinese threat, that struck me as something we should interject about.”
Rhodes attacked, “All of Donald Trump’s favorite leaders around the world are dictators.” No one on MSNBC thought to give that a “reality check” and see if that claim is true. Instead, convention co-anchor Nicolle Wallace looked to Rhodes for a “fact pattern.”
You have to take me through the fact pattern here. Joe Biden let ISIS terrorists rampage across the Middle East? The facts I recall are Donald Trump green lit a mission for Erdogan that resulted in our Kurdish allies who manned most of the prisons where ISIS terrorists were locked up, Donald Trump put that in motion. No?
Maddow closed by gushing, “Ben Rhodes, former Deputy National Security Advisor, thank you. I have a feeling you have not seen the last of us tonight given how things are going.”
Imagine if Pepsi put out a fact check of Coke, declaring that, in fact, the rival soda tasted awful. Would anyone take that seriously? That’s what MSNBC did all this week. Liberals attacking conservatives. Democrats fact checking Republicans. Except that MSNBC expects to be taken seriously.

RACHEL MADDOW: Arkansas U.S. Senator, Tom Cotton. We're just going to interject here and try and get a little bit of a reality check on some of Senator Cotton’s comments, including with our colleague, former Deputy National Security Advisor and MSNBC political contributor Ben Rhodes. Ben, we still have more to talk about in terms of what Rudy Giuliani just said. I want to you a chance to give us a reality check of what we heard from Senator Cotton. I want to ask you what stood out to you? At the outset of him saying that Joe Biden cuddled dictators while President Trump has been standing up to China and has been clear eyed about the Chinese threat. That struck me as something we should interject about.
