NAACP Image Award Host Longs for Obama’s Third Term, Smears Omarosa as Trump Sellout

January 16th, 2018 3:59 PM

The NAACP Image Awards on Monday were less an awards show and more an attempt to push liberal talking points. Host Anthony Anderson longed for a third Obama term and bashed an African American former Trump aide as a sellout. Others on the show lobbied for Democratic wins in the 2018 midterms.

During the opening monologue, Anderson dreamed of changing the Constitution for Obama: “This is my fifth year on this stage, and I'm glad there aren't term limits for a host. I just wish there weren't term limits for a president. How would you like to be celebrating your first year of Barack Obama's third term?”

Later, the Blackish co-star took a nasty shot at former Trump aide Omarosa Manigault, sliming her as a sellout to African Americans: “I hear Omarosa is getting $10 million for a book deal about her life in the White House. Hasn't that book and movie already been made? It's called The Help.”

The Help revolves around a white woman and her two black maids. Apparently, as a conservative African American, Omarosa isn't the right type of powerful black woman.

Later, a group of women in the entertainment industy outright lobbied for Democrats:

ANGELA ROBINSON (director): The midterms are a perfect moment for us to use our voices.

LAVERNE COX (Actress) : We cannot sit this one out.

ROBINSON: If we can take back a senate seat in Alabama —

JURNEE SMOLLETT-BELL (actress): Then we have the ability to shift the balance of power.

ANTHONY ANDERSON: And I'm so proud that it's [Blackish] done so well at this awards show, but black-ish cannot seem to win any other award than an Image Award. I mean, we have 17 nominations, and we have yet to win one. I mean, hell, I think we're the Hillary Clinton of TV. But one woman did make it to the White House this year. Omarosa. All right. I hear she's in here tonight. Probably sitting someplace next to Maxine Waters. It's about to be a girl fight. I hear Omarosa is getting $10 million for a book deal about her life in the White House. Hasn't that book and movie already been made? It's called The Help.

ANTHONY ANDERSON: This is my fifth year on this stage, and I'm glad there aren't term limits for a host. I just wish there weren't term limits for a president. How would you like to be celebrating your first year of Barack Obama's third term? Huh? Barack Obama is the one —  is one of many black Americans who changed this country for the better. Legends like Crispus Attucks, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglas, Ida B. Wells, Thurgood Marshall, Rosa Parks. Men and women who risked their lives for justice and freedom.
