MSNBC Guest, Who Compared Cheney to Nazis, Outraged Over Obama Attack

February 9th, 2016 9:57 PM

Esquire columnist and frequent MSNBC guest Charles Pierce on Monday assailed Marco Rubio for attacking Barack Obama. Regarding the Republican’s assertion that Obama isn’t incompetent, but is intentionally changing America, Pierce raged, “He's saying Barack Obama is undermining the Constitution. That's an impeachable offense. You just don't say that about a sitting president!”

Keep in mind, this is the same person who compared Dick Cheney to Nazi Hermann Goering and genocidal dictator Pol Pot. Regarding Rubio’s debate performance on Saturday, Pierce complained, “Marco Rubio has been a lightweight his whole political career. I mean, let's go to the rest of what he said there.”

He added, “[Rubio] essentially accused the President of the United States of sedition. That's a serious charge. I guarantee you, he has nothing to back that up.”

CHARLES PIERCE: Marco Rubio has been a lightweight his whole political career. I mean, let's go to the rest of what he said there. He essentially accused the President of the United States of sedition. That's a serious charge. I guarantee you, he has nothing to back that up.

CHRIS HAYES: Just so people understand the context. Sabrina, at one level, it’s, like, right. Obviously, it's like Barack Obama knows what he's doing. Who's the straw man that you are arguing that Barack Obama he doesn't know what he's doing?

SABRINA SIDDIQUI: There’s a reason behind that. The context is Marco Rubio ever since he’s emerged on the national scene has been compared to Barack Obama. On the Republican side, that's been viewed as a liability. And his opponents have used that as a slight. Not as any source of any praise. So, what he does on the stump, and he’s been doing this for a while is try to say, “Listen, Barack Obama has been successful at pushing a liberal agenda. And he's been successful at changing this country to his view. So, we need a conservative in the White House, like myself, essentially, who will achieve what Barack Obama has done for liberals,” but do it for Republicans. That’s the essence of the argument he’s making on one side at least.

CHARLES PIERCE: If he were saying that, I would not have said what I just said. He's saying Barack Obama is undermining the Constitution. That's an impeachable offense. You just don't say that about a sitting president!
