Liberals in the media love when a celebrity wants to endorse a major Democratic presidential candidate. So it wasn’t surprising that on Monday, Judy Sheindlin — the star of the successful syndicated Judge Judy television program — appeared on ABC’s The View and discussed her role in a new advertisement endorsing Democratic billionaire and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The hosts even played Sheindlin's campaign spot she recorded for Bloomberg.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg began the interview by stating that Sheindlin making such a public statement is “really very, very, very rare for you” since she had never endorsed anyone before.
Sheindlin replied:
I’ve never seen America so angry with each other as a family, and it became sort of frightening where you couldn’t go to a social gathering and have a difference of opinion and lose a friend, an acquaintance.
If you view America as the greatest family on the planet, I felt as if it was time for America, which is the greatest country in the world, to have the greatest president for a while.
After the guest looked at the field of 2020 candidates, she stated: “I’m sure they’re all very nice people” but “there was no other voice for me other than [the] voice of someone who has experience in governance, second only to the President of the United States.”
Sheindlin continued that her perspective led her to Bloomberg because “New York City has the most diverse population of anyplace else in the United States of America.”
During his 12 years as mayor, she claimed: “There was a good feeling; it was a feeling that things were run effectively and efficiently.”
“Judge Judy” also described Bloomberg as “a brilliant, self-made guy who runs and manages thousands of people and has for 30 years,” as well as someone who’s “not just a today philanthropist” who does things in anticipation of running for the White House in 2020.
“He’s been supporting things that we all care about: gun control, climate change and spending his money to do that in all sorts of ways across America,” she continued. “That’s who he is.” However, her strongest reaction came when the co-hosts criticized Bloomberg as “just another rich guy” trying to “buy” the election.
“I think that to define Mike Bloomberg as ‘just another rich guy’ is one of the greatest injustices of this political campaign that we’re in,” Sheindlin replied, because he “is the only one of the candidates who has experience governing and managing.”
The View also showed the 30-second ad in which their guest states:
I’m “Judge Judy” Sheindlin. I like to say you can judge someone’s character by what they’ve done. Mike Bloomberg has done amazing things and will be a truly great president.
No one comes close to Mike Bloomberg’s executive achievement, government experience and impactful philanthropy. His steady leadership will unite our country and bring us through these very challenging times.
