Remember earlier this month when Democratic impeachment witness Pamela Karlan attacked the Trump family? She testified that even though the “President can name his son Barron, he can't make him a baron.” Later that day, Karlan apologized for her caustic remark
However, she’s not the only person who wants to take on Trump’s 13-year-old son. Screenwriter Nicolas Curcio is looking for someone to produce his unused script entitled Barron: A Tale of Love, Loss & Legacy in which the child tries to sabotage his father’s presidential ambitions in 2016.
According to an article posted on Monday by Matt Donnelly, a senior staff writer for the Variety website, Curcio’s screenplay has made the annual Black List, a ranking of Hollywood’s best unproduced scripts, which is conducted by surveying 250 top film executives.
Donnelly also stated that Trump’s son “could be coming to the big screen soon in a wild scripted ride that imagines him attempting to thwart his father’s campaign.”
Why would Trump’s child try to take down his Dad during that election? Donnelly states that “this fictional dilemma” depicts the boy as “fearing the devastating impact that his father’s presidency would have on his personal life, his country and the world at large.”
As you might expect, the project does not have any producers or financiers attached to it. Part of the eligibility for the list is that a script must not have commenced principal photography in the current calendar year. Donnelly also noted that Barron “has been the center of heated debates in recent weeks concerning the children of U.S. presidents.”
Back in early December, the First Lady slammed Karlan by stating that the boy “is not an activist who travels the globe giving speeches. He is a 13-year-old who wants and deserves privacy.” She also tweeted that a minor boy “should be kept out of politics. Pamela Karlan, you should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering, and using a child to do it.”
As NewsBusters then reported, one of the biggest headlines to come out of the impeachment hearings was Karlan lashing out at Trump’s son. However, the attack went completely unmentioned by the CBS Evening News even though ABC’s World News Tonight called the attack “witty” and NBC Nightly News edited out the comment. When CBS News finally got around to mentioning the witness’s slam, CBS This Morning co-host Gayle King conceded that the remark made her “cringe just a little bit.”
However, if a script contained President Barack Obama’s daughters trying to undo their father’s campaigns in 2008 and 2012, we can only imagine how angry the response would be.
